FIRE REPRESENTATIVE

The rather vain and lazy representative of Fire in Steel Crest. He and his mate, Fender, are skilled blacksmiths, supplying the clan of its armor and weapons. They travel to Fire territory every Flameforger's Festival season to visit old friends, celebrate, and nest. He and his mate consider the large Guardian, Elbrus, to be their adopted child after successfully excavating him from the borders of the Ashfall Wastes.

As a young Coatl, Shepherd and his mate lived a secluded and shabby life in a small slave run mining shaft. Sitting atop a massive Magma born bear, a fat Snapper whipped workers to keep them going through the day regardless of if they were slow or not. Scars are scattered across Shepherd's scales and feathers never to grow back, and although he grew hardy from the abuse, he waited anxiously for the day that he'd be able to turn the tables on the master, a day that would come to him fortunately sooner in life.

During a dominance scuffle, the small mine shaft was caught in between Fire and Water in a furious battle over territory. A group of hunters from a Water clan fell into the shaft and quickly doused it, ruining years of work and flooding the tunnels with slaves inside the begged for their life and luckily, mercy was on their side. Saved from drowning, Shepherd was plucked from the water by a massive Ridgeback dame that agreed to help him and the others take their bottled in rage to the master. They tore him from his mount and as Shepherd went to deal his blow, he was suddenly blinded by a vicious explosion of fire that erupted through the mine shaft, leaving nothing but a collapsed pit in a matter of seconds.

At the center of the rubble, he managed to worm his way through an opening straight to the sky, but his wings wouldn't move for him. Looking around at his options, first he noticed the marred body of his friend, curled up and shaking, her feathers burned off nearly completely. His stare was averted to the roars of the master's bear that struggled to move debris off of its back. Without further thought, Shepherd dragged Fender to the bear and shoved off the boulders that hardly damaged it's armor, and atop it's back they made their escape guided by the Ridgeback that lead the attack into the mines. Survivors of the explosion were few and far between, scattered from the mines, but it was a clear victory for the Water Flight's dominance.

After years of recovery and finding his path in life with his mate at his side, Shepherd and Fender became skilled blacksmiths by trade with their thorough knowledge from bygone days of slavery. Fender is a dangerously powerful user of their birth-given magic of Fire, a talent that often saw her to the battlefield. Although called by their deity to protect their lands from enemy clans, the two generally sat at the sidelines and watched the battles, making bets and bickering over how a dragon could have done this to win over their aggressor. For the first time since their freedom from the mines, they watched the Water Flight spill into the scene with much smaller numbers than they had last time. A small clan, hardly armored and with dragons that couldn't even fly, sparked the attention of the Coatl couple as they ripped across the battlefield, odds stacked against them but quickly knocked down by tooth, claw and a remarkable tolerance for the wounds that lashed across their bodies as they fought.

The Water Flight was defeated with hardly any to retreat back, but the small clan lead by a steel-horned Guardian dame backed away with fight still in them, and wicked snarls that challenged the Fire Flight to come at them still despite their defeat. Shepherd could only think to himself how that clan might have turned this battle of dominance if only they had armor backing up their tenacity. Discussing plots of how to fit armor to the frame of that Guardian, the Coatls followed the clan to the ocean before demanding that they serve armoring the dragons, spouting that their presence would ensure the clan victory over their foes. The few massive Guardians of Steel Crest craned their heads down to the level of the smaller dragons, but could not argue their point and had a laugh over the bravado that the Coatls displayed. Shepherd, his bear, and Fender began life settled as blacksmiths armoring Steel Crest Cove, and not before long began to passionately fight for their new true home beside their family, and also as their Fire Representative.
