Biography
I am the slow but certain shift in the shape of a riverbank; I am the deviation of every root around each stone; I am the twist and curl of every branch that seeks sunlight. I am the Memory of this Grove. It is to me dragons flock when they wish to learn of history; and it is to me they scurry when I must be told that history has been made.
Before I tell you of this Grove's past, let me tell you of my own. I was hatched to an unremarkable clan loyal to the Gladekeeper, where my parents taught me the lessons of their past, and the benefits of remembering it. They also taught me the coatl tongue, and through the other dragons of the clan I learned to speak and understand common draconian - yet some small language barrier remained. I found I could speak the language easier than I could hear it, and this remains so today. It was in my hatch-clan that I learned to read and write, my most valued skills today.Life with my family was comfortable and easy, yet I felt the urge to wander. The more determined I became to ignore it, the more furiously this urge nagged at my mind. Eventually, I could ignore it no longer, and was compelled to leave the clan. I travelled south, sometimes on foot and sometimes in the air, heeding a call I didn't understand. I eventually found myself in the Ashfall Waste, at the Emberglow Hearth. There I met many dragons, most of them friendly, and one particularly pleasant coatl, Mamaea, who explained that I had followed a calling known to our kind across Sornieth.
I stayed in the Hearth a good while with this delightful girl, and we raised a clutch. However, once our hatchlings were grown, a great restlessness came over me once again, and I felt I must bid goodbye to my new home. We journeyed northwards as I once again sought out the Labyrinth (again, a journey whose tale is best told another time), and happened upon a guardian scoring neat trenches in the soft earth with his claws. Nearby, a mirror guarded her nest, curled around a single egg.
The guardian was uncommunicative, but his apparent mate was remarkably talkative for her kind and seemed to welcome my brood's company. She warned us to mind the plants here, and to mind her mate, Paxid, too. She explained their unique situation, and the guardian's unique view of the world. My brood were excited to meet a dragon who had once been a snake, and Mamaea saw no harm in remaining for a brief time to hear (translated by myself and their damme) stories from Paxid's apparently infinite life. I offered my services to graft branches and hold tools, and soon enough the hatchlings and Mamaea were helping out, too. We're not quite sure when it became a permanent arrangement, but I am content with it.
