ABOUTxxxxxThe only true test of a warrior's skill is in battle

Venom is truly a student of war. He discovered from a young age that he had a knack for quick thinking and problem solving, even in stressful situations. This has made him an invaluable member of his new clan, where he serves as the general during times of war. He is also a member of the coliseum team during peaceful times, giving him a chance to practice his skills in a safer situation. Although he is good at it, he dreads war, knowing exactly how it changes those affected by it. He would much rather practice his skills on monsters, with his friends by his side.

A warrior. That's what Venom was born and raised to be. He was meant to serve the Gladekeeper until his dying breath, giving his life for a cause. What that cause was is what Venom could never understand. When asked, even his clan leader simply mumbled something about how the other flights were evil, and they had to be beaten. Venom couldn't understand. A few of the dragons in his own clan were from other flights, but no one cared about that. Were the other flights truly so terrible? He'd heard stories of course, especially about Plague. Horrifying creatures made from disease and sickness that killed anything they touched. Fire dragons who burned anything that stood in their path, leaving a trail of embers behind them. Arcane dragons so obsessed with knowledge they went insane, doing horrid things in the name of science. Ice dragons that sent their own kin to serve the Icewarden, never to be seen again, presumed dead. Venom was taught that Nature fought this, fought to stop these unspeakable evils.
And so the day came for him to serve the Gladekeeper. A proud soldier, Venom was ready to fight and die for his flight. He still had doubts, but he believed they would be erased once he saw the battlefield, saw the evils his clan so often spoke of. He was sent to fight against the Windsinger first. As far as he knew, Wind dragons were unstoppable hurricanes, almost untouchable in their fury. They destroyed the land, and any life that was unfortunate enough to be in their way.
Venom was surprised to find a gentle, peaceful landscape of light breezes and kites. He would not let himself be fooled. He repeated the stories he had been taught as a hatchling, and went to complete his assignment. He had been told of a clan that had been harboring a spy for Plague, and to use any means necessary to catch and kill both the spy and the traitorous Wind dragons that would give shelter to such a dragon.
His task went much better than expected. Posing as a lost traveller, he found their lair, and spoke to the leader, whose name he found to be Genovia, about the spy. She told him that they had seen a Plague dragon matching the description of his so-called "friend" a few days ago. Apparently they saw many travellers pass through, and had seen nothing abnormal with the Plague dragon. Had he not had to keep up appearances for the moment, he would have laughed. She was obviously lying to cover up her clan's treachery. She and her clan would face punishment later. First he had a criminal to catch.
Still pretending to be friends with the spy, Venom gained as much information from the Mirror as he could, including where he had been headed next. It didn't take long for Venom to catch up to him. He had never stood a chance. He'd never even seen Venom coming, dead before he could realize who had attacked him. As the life faded from his body, Venom felt strangely empty. Where was the pride he had been told he'd feel after his first kill? Where was the happiness that should come from ridding Sornieth of a traitor? Venom looked down at the dragon. A Ridgeback, like himself. Fairly small for his species, and rather plain looking. He didn't look like a spy. He didn't even have any concealed weapons on him.
A trick. It had to be. He'd hidden his weapons somewhere else in case he'd been followed. That had to be it. Venom still had half of his task left to fulfill. The Mirror Genovia and her clan. They would be killed, and he would do it.
By nightfall he had found his way back to the clan. He told Genovia a story about how he had failed to find his friend, and he didn't have anywhere else to stay. She immediately offered to let him stay the night in her lair, and the other dragons set about clearing a space for him. A perfect set up.
That night, after all the dragons had fallen asleep, he slowly got up, looking around carefully. He debating trying to kill the dragon closest to him first, a small black and green Fae that had been introduced to him as Dawn, but no doubt she'd scream and wake up the rest of the clan. That wouldn't do. No, he'd have to do something else. His eyes landed on the faint outline of a Mirror, sleeping peacefully next to a Fae. Yes. He would kill their leader. They would never dare to harbor a criminal in their lair again.
He crept up to her, holding his small dagger tightly in his claws. He raised it above his head, smiling at the thought of killing the evil leader. Suddenly, without warning, he flashed back to earlier that night.
"Of course you can stay the night. We would never turn a dragon away. I'm sure we can find space and food for you"
"That's very kind of you"
"Think nothing of it. The winds don't judge"
Then, as suddenly as it had came, it ended. She had been so nice to him. Had she truly not known of the traitor? She had seemed so sincere, so kind hearted. How could he simply murder her in her sleep?
That night, Venom left Genovia's lair, leaving the clan sleeping peacefully behind him, unknowing of what had nearly occurred. He had to get as far away as possible. He couldn't return home now. But where else could he go?
Ice. His Nature clan would never follow him there. Cold and inhospitable, barely any plant life could grow there. It would be perfect. A new start.
When he arrived in Ice, he was once again surprised. While the environment was frigid and frozen, the dragons were anything but. It didn't take long for him to find a new clan, led by a Mirror named Silver. She and her clan welcomed him warmly, and though a bit unemotional, they were good dragons. Nothing like the stories his birth clan had told him. He was beginning to wonder if any of them had been true.
It wasn't until a few months later when he realized his mistake. He overheard Silver talking to her mate about her friend, a Wind Mirror named Genovia. It couldn't be. It simply couldn't. But when she came to visit a few days later, Venom knew it was no coincidence. This was the dragon he had almost murdered so many months ago. And she recognized him. Asked him if he had ever found his friend.
Venom couldn't take it any longer. He had lied to his new clan, saying that he had simply moved for a change of view, and he had lied to Genovia. He was tired of living a lie.
So he told them the truth. How he was raised to fight. How he had gone through training, and become the best in his generation. How he had been given the assignment to kill a traitor. How he had done so. How he had decided to kill Genovia. How he had decided not to.
After he was done, both clans were in shock. Venom wished he could disappear. He didn't know what to do.
Genovia forgave him. She was like that, always willing to help another dragon. He understood that now. He stayed in Silver's clan as a coliseum fighter, fighting alongside Moonbeam and Sierra to keep his adopted clan safe. He can barely remember his time in Nature, though he still has nightmares of the dragon he killed. He is still plagued by the question of if he actually deserved to die, or if he had been innocent like Genovia. Had he truly been a spy at all? Or was he just a normal traveller, like any number of his new friends that he would now die to protect? Perhaps some questions are better left unanswered...
