Umbrien Curse Survivor | Beloved Son | The Adopted Heir

Umbrien is cursed with an aversion to shadows. In his presence, the shadows comes alive with grasping, strangling claws that seek to drag him into the darkness and consume him. Lone light sources alone are not always enough to keep the darkness at bay, so he hoards lanterns, candles, and other glowing objects.

Umbrien has never known a life without the constant danger from the shadows. His adoptive mother, the progenitor Kolin and Ashvael have done all they can to improve his quality of life and increase his abilities to remain safe. He too created several safe places that he has scattered about the clan territory. When he can, he fills them with anything that even remotely gives off light.

Umbrien's desire for safety used to cause him to go to great extremes for safety, but over time as he's learned how to live with his curse, he's relaxed finally down. He is determined to live and does what he feels he needs to survive. He nowadays spends much time training; something he and his adoptive parents are very cautiously optimistic about.

It once was a lonely existence for him, as he wasn't completely shunned but not fully welcome by the others. This has slowly improved. His friend (and somewhat crush) Janus, has been good company for the pearlcatcher. His friend and him have been a source of mutual support to one another, helping each other strive towards improving their situations. Recently, his niece and nephew too came into his life. He has been forging a relation with them as well for they're from the family he never got to know. They too, he found out, were cursed. So he supports them as much as he can. Maiya is much like a little sister to him and her brother, Mikael, while more distant, has also come to find solace in his presence.

He aspires to create a territory for himself outside the caverns that is safe from the shadows where he can live peacefully. For this he is learning how to cultivate and raise the many glowing plants and animals of Sornieth so that he may fill greater places with their light.

While he often feels he lacks all the appeal of his race and wonders what sort of life he's going to live with this burden he retains some hope. Afterall, every night brings a new sunrise.
