Solace has had quite the unusual upbringing for a crow. She was raised by Magpies that ended up growing attached to her after she hatched in their arms, much to their surprise. They had planned to simply plant her egg elsewhere or sell it off after dropping their own eggs in the Effluvial's nest, but couldn't bring themselves to go through with it ultimately.
Even once she understood what had happened, she did not mind.

She had never known another life after all, and these magpies cared for her well. Despite that, as time went on, she felt the gnawing desire to learn where she came from. Perhaps see the world along the way, and while her Magpie family did not settle in one place either, she ultimately chose to set out on her own. Tying a small ornament of their feathers to her tail and wrapping herself up in clothes that they made for her, she moved out, eager to see what the world had in store for her.

"Are you still alright on your feet there?"
"Y-yes, please, don't worry. I've run far longer without breaks before.."
"I know, but that doesn't mean you need to push yourself when we're still safe, y'know?"
The two young crows were chatting as they made their way along the cliff face. Their destination, albeit temporary, was not too far now. The Millmeadows. A peaceful settlement of farmers, welcoming and generous even towards strangers. The ideal stop for travellers to restock, rest, and find some shelter for a while.
As Solace let her gaze wander, however, a peculiar sight interrupted her trail of thought and caused her to pause, earning her a worried glance from her companion.
"What is it, Solace?"
Instead of replying, she broke into a sprint towards what had caught her attention. The crumpled form of what seemed to be another dragon, a loose trail of feathers nearby indicating where they may have come from before collapsing.
Joelle was quick to follow her, and the two crouched down beside the stranger.
Their plumage was a deep, green-blue, mottled with dirtied whites, and their wings covered in mint and purple feathers. Their clothing was torn up, barely clinging to their frame and doing little to hide the various damages across their body.
"Hello? Are you okay? Can you hear me?"
Solace reached out towards the stranger, but froze when their eyes snapped wide open.
Striking purple orbs stared back at her, with a slit pupil and darkened sclera.

The dragon tried in vain to pull their limbs close and heft themselves up, having to be caught by the two young crows not to fold in on themselves again.
"What.. where... augh."
They groaned in pain as they inevitably had to lean on the others for support
"Easy, easy.. It's okay, we're not enemies! What happened to you..?"
The injured dragon lifted their limply hanging head ever so slightly to look at the girl by their side.
"...too much, little one." A set of dry coughs interrupted them. "..where are we."
Solace glanced around herself, searching for the words to answer their question.
"Somewhere out in the Zephyr Steppes. Not far from the Millmeadows, actually..!"
Their brows furrowed in confusion.
"I.. cannot say I know what you're speaking of, aside from.. well. The steppes, vaguely."
Joelle shot his friend a glance, who returned it with a nod.
"I don't think it matters too much right now. You're in an awful shape and need help, c'mon, we'll help you get to the nearest village, we were heading there anyways!"
"I.. don't think that's a-"
"I'm not taking backtalk from someone who cannot even stand on their own! Joelle, help me out here, we're bringing them along. At least until we can get someone to patch them up.."
The other crow was a little more wary and reluctant of the stranger they had scooped up, but ultimately complied and helped Solace carry their discovery as they continued on towards the meadows.
