Lazul, silent researcher of magical energy. He worked with Grimsey to advance magical weaponry, but has since found his calling investigating how elemental magic interacts with the shade. While he never did learn written or spoken language, he is intensely close with Somnus, a childhood companion who is unbothered by his inability to speak. The pair has made great strides in understanding the shade and advancing magical knowledge, with Somnus using his academic reputation to draw attention to Lazul's silent contributions to their shared projects.
Outside of his obsession with magic and machinery, Lazul is deeply fond of the Starwood Strand, and frequently disappears from the Grove for weeks at a time to reconnect with the magical woodlands. He is usually accompanied by his daughter, Saccharine, who shares his ties to the Strand and uses her intense charisma to ensure her nonverbal father is safe.
