Somnus was never the most social dragon. Even as a hatchling, he showed little interest in others, and preferred to keep to himself. The one exception was Lazul, the nonverbal skydancer he grew up with. As they grew up, the pair became expert magical scientists. Early on, they were roped into Magistra Industries' magical weapon development, and Somnus flourished. He cared little for what his inventions were used for- he got funding and a lab! But when Lazul started to object, and Magistra was forced to operate under Steeltalon Simmons, Somnus decided to change how he viewed his work.
While he has recognized the evils of Magistra Industries, Somnus has remained begrudgingly loyal to Grimsey and his former colleagues. Nowadays, he spends his time with Lazul, making breakthroughs in shade research purely in the interest of academia. While he tends to be blunt, overly literal, and incredibly stubborn, his attention to detail and clear intellect have earned him immense respect.
