Resides in the deepest part of the cove that no one dares touch. Phantasia once lived in the cave with him, guarding his old lair. Marred was a resident of the cove long before Asala claimed it as her charge. Marred could leave the cove's murky lairs if he wanted, but not without causing damage to the narrow upper lairs, and he has no wish to leave the shadows. The only light that hits the walls of his lair are from the chemical reactions bursting from cauldrons and pools, and multitudes of fungi that glow softly.

Since Marred's awakening, Melinoe, another Guardian dame, relieved Phantasia of her post and became his first consort. They acted as alchemists and communed with the spirits, keeping the cove safe from dark magics as well as representing the Shadow flight. It is a very fresh wound in his heart that, as a scavenging party had returned, word was sent to him that she had been cut down in the Ghostlight Ruins. After his rampant revenge, he now prefers to remain alone and unguarded in his cave, ignoring people that pass into his cave but appreciating visits from his son, Dimitri. Melinoe was buried in the depths below Steel Crest, but her skull remains in their cave. Although morbid, it seems to have an eerie presence about it, and it soothes the mourning Imperial.
