Craving adventure, young Kukpik left his original home in the Wispwillow Grove with a decent inheritance of treasure. He spent his time between the domains of the Windsinger and Arcanist, enjoying sophisticated creations and gliding on the winds. He was happy to live a free life of luxury and leisure, until his pouch emptied. Although he had made plenty of friends who were also very free-spirited, they lacked any connection to treasure.

As the Imperial began scouting for an easy profession that paid well, he discovered an opportunity in the Southern Icefield. He soon found out that this supposed Summer work in the Tundra was too good to be true. His employer didn't look kindly on his previous spoiled life, and relocated Kukpik to a location bordering the Fortress of Ends to teach him good work ethics. Bound by a contract, he had no option but to oblige.

Naturally, he loathed it. The harsh Wintry weather chilled him to the bone, and he longed for the chance to sunbathe with a gentle breeze, or sleep under the stars without freezing his scales off. Rusty chains and shackles were a common punishment for the pompous Imperial's refusal to work as hard as the rest of the team.

Feeling as though he was owed some comfort, he entered his boss' tent one night without an invitation. However, the Fae was nowhere to be seen. It didn't matter to Kukpik. He knew that his boss had used potions and magic to resist the frigid hoarfrost, and figured that he wouldn't miss one little potion. As his talons touched the warm glass of a nearby vial, a rustle in the back of the tent startled him. His boss had been there the whole time and began to reprimand the Imperial, and for once, Kukpik felt fear. He looped the vial around his neck and fled the camp. It was all he could do to barrel through the densely packed snow as his wings were too chilled to take flight.

Once he felt that he was a safe enough distance to stop for a moment, he uncorked the vial and took a sip of the potion. Within a heartbeat, the concoction sealed his fate. It was not a warming potion, but rather a powerful ancient potion enchanted with the essence of Eternal Snow that numbed his entire body. Since he didn't feel any cold and still couldn't beat his wings, he assumed it was just a weak potion. Only after days of slowly pushing through the snow did he begin to realize his new reality.

Even the molten lakes of the Ashfall Waste couldn't melt off the permanent icy scars. Both the vial and the shackles were frozen into place by thick layers of permafrost.

Mortified, the Imperial hid away in Cinderslag until he was cast out as a bad omen who couldn't even contribute to the forge. It was then when he met Ripun, a grizzled Mirror who had recently formed his own clan. He didn't care that Kukpik had been cursed. Instead, the leader saw value in his knowledge of other territories.

Although Ripun was not an affectionate leader by any means, Kukpik genuinely wanted to help his clan and found his own ways to contribute. He now lives a rather comfortable life in his own hollowed out pocket of the lair, surrounded by wall scrolls and tapestries of beautiful scenes of Sornieth. He tells stories of his journeys to young hatchlings and never misses a chance to socialize over drinks with other founding clan members.
