Little Brother's story is a patchwork of trails and trials that landed him in the Wild Oats settlement. He doesn't remember much of his past, only that he was travelling with a Hatchling trade caravan when he was separated from them. He's never been absolutely sure how it happened, but his irrational fear of storms suggests that perhaps that had something to do with it. The wilderness is no place for a Hatchling to be alone, but the young Imperial managed to find his way into a small, nomadic clan in the Shattered Plains. With them, he learned to live off the land as well as how to appreciate any small blessings. He was small, for an Imperial, and was the youngest hatchling brought into the family at the time, so the clan took to calling him Little Brother, even though he soon grew to be one of the larger dragons in the group. Being nomadic, the clan moved from place to place until their territory had been claimed by larger, more established clans. With less and less territory available to them for hunting and gathering, Little Brother's clan resorted to working the land of larger, wealthy clans for payment in coin or food. It was a meager existence, but it kept the family together.

Over the years, the clan was separated bit by bit according to their skills. They went where work was available, and soon Little Brother found himself on his own once again. He became a shepherd of various grazing animals, and his flock changed based on the region of the current clan he was serving. For a dragon with little wealth to call his own, Little Brother was surprisingly well-traveled. He moved from clan to clan, territory to territory, province to province, in search of lairs hiring on shepherds. He even spent a season shepherding Kelp Tenders in the vast shallows of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Eventually, the Imperial found his way into the Windsinger's domain. The high steppes and lush grasses were perfect for grazing, and Little Brother was sure that he'd found a viable region to offer his services. Travelling to a bustling trade town, he began searching for contracts open to shepherds and herdsdragons. It was here that he happened upon a notice from a clan that called itself the Wild Oats Settlement. They were in need of a dragon with his skills, and he jumped at the opportunity. With his contract in one hand and his shepherd's hook in the other, he set off for Wild Oats.

He settled in quickly, the town having invested in a few goats to start off the root of what would become Little Brother's new herd. He is a good caretaker of the small animals and his size, while some thought it would frighten the beasts, actually seems to give the goats a sense of safety. It is often said that Little Brother is better in tune with his flock than he is with other dragons. That isn't to say he is reclusive or ill tempered. In fact, he blends in quite well with the other settlers and is quite amiable. His flock provides a steady source of food, pelts and milk, and he has been known to peddle these assets to other clans when the Wild Oats Settlement is in need of other trade goods. Little Brother was offered the chance to change his name upon becoming a citizen of the settlement, but he declined. It seemed fitting, as he was the youngest dragon in the clan at the time of his arrival. And even since growing older, he is thought of as a brother to everyone in the town.

As he grew, Shavuot began noticing a peculiar resemblance to a dragon she knew from her birth clan. Looking into the matter, she found that an Imperial of Little Brother's coloration was born to Zhairo and Makana of the Elsewhere Clan, was sent off and subsequently lost in a hatchling trade caravan, and his death was never confirmed. There is no real proof other than the birth records archived in Elsewhere, but Shavuot is convinced that Little Brother is the long-lost hatchling. Little Brother seems impartial one way or another, his logic being that it would be quite a coincidence that his birthclan was the very clan that aided Oats in settling the community he currently resides in. Then again, stranger things have happened.

In colder months, Little Brother often dons a luxurious Woodsdrake Cape. It seems much too fancy for an ordinary shepherd, but it was gifted to him by a Clan in the Southern Ice Fields for whom he worked for a season, tending their herd of elk. It is definitely among his most treasured possessions.

Lately, Little Brother has been rather distracted. The others can't quite pin down a reason, though an acutely observant dragon might connect Little Brother's absentmindedness to the forming of an alliance with the Lurking Shadows Clan. Whenever members of the other clan visit to trade, there always seems to be a certain Imperial dragonelle in their midst. She and Little Brother slip off to be alone for hours at a time, though most of the townsfolk don't think anything of it since Little Brother often moves his herd to graze far from the town so it isn't odd for him to be gone for long periods of time. Little Brother is thankful for these secret getaways as he is pretty sure the town emissary would not approve of intimate relations with clients. So far, the pair has been able to keep their relationship under wraps.

The following is a short drabble written by me as part of this thread here. The result of this encounter is how Little Brother received his cape from the most generous Clan Seafall.

The Coatl was a vision. Like nothing he'd ever seen before, even in all his travels. He had been reluctant to peddle his skills as a shepherd in the Southern Icefields. It was frigid. But he needed the coin. He'd tended elk before, they weren't the easiest to work with, what with the bucks being so ornery and the does being so skittish, but the clan that had employed him to tend their herd was paying well.

The snow was deep, the wind was howling and his breath had formed a layer of frost on his whiskers. Miserable...just miserable. But then he saw her. A beauty that looked to be carved from the very glaciers surrounding the territory. A delicate jewel punctuated her fair face, resting against her forehead. It was brought out by the sky blue of her wings.

The shepherd gawked stupidly as she passed, on her way back to her clan hold from some adventure or high court, no doubt. Suddenly springing into action, Little Brother bowed in greeting. M'lady, he rasped in greeting. Stupid, he thought to himself, but at least he had managed to speak. His gaze followed her retreating form until she became indistinguishable from the surrounding snow.

Verdict: Little Brother fails at courting a lady.
