Biography

SLATE
Commanding Warrior

Slate left her original clan for unknown reasons and headed south, looking for a new place to call home. She nearly reached the bottom of the world before finding it. She was found by Aster, nearly frozen and hiding in a snowbank. The Guardian took her to the iceburg cave, where she was welcomed by Rust and the two young hatchlings, Diesel and Flake. The family took care of the growing dragon, and she became the first outsider welcomed permanently into their home.

One of the first things the family learned about their new companion was that she had difficulty speaking. She answered most of their questions with gestures and rudimentary sign language, only using her raspy voice when necessary. Aster loaned some of his map parchment, and she was able to write out her name and that, "Yes, I am feeling better. Thank you." It didn't take long for the Guardian family to learn sign language. They also learned about Slate's fighting prowess when she saved the two hatchlings from a group of aggressive bluefin chargers.

Within the growing clan, Slate acts as the head warrior. She is given the most difficult assignments and often helps Rust with training their guides and mapmakers in how to protect themselves and others. All of her fellow clanmates know some level of sign language in order to talk with her. She is on the front lines of any physical conflict, whether it be with other dragons, aggressive beastclan nomads, or other threats. Slate loves playing with hatchlings, and often allows the smaller members of her clan to ride on her shoulders and the top of her head. She can seem cold and distant, but that more often comes from shyness and a lack of social skills than true emotional dislike. Unfortunately, Slate is often very hard on herself, and it is difficult for her to keep from falling into self-loathing. Thankfully, she is surrounded by supportive family who all appreciate her for who she is.
