Clan Sunsharp’s Archmage is a transplant from the Shifting Expanse with a clinical approach to magic. To Eyne, the arcane is never something one feels; it’s something one understands. No dragon can boast innate talent, they claim, but instead must work and study hard to earn any accomplishment. They’re a strict and critical teacher, expecting nothing but perfection from their acolytes. Only the uniquely diligent (or uniquely masochistic) can endure their training.

Over the span of only a few years Eyne has established the Paragons - an exclusive cadre of mages organizationally distinct from the Vanguard - and built their reputation as a formidable arcane force. Prior to that, magic was a supplementary training for Clan Sunsharp’s soldiers, but the warriors with no propensity for the craft struggled to wield it properly. It was Eyne who surgically separated the arcane from the martial, developing their own battalion out of the magically proficient elite. Now, whenever the Vanguard embarks on a mission, one of Eyne’s Paragons always accompanies them.

Eyne has a strong affinity for insects (or, perhaps, insects have a strong affinity for them). The Archmage is rarely seen without a number of them trailing behind, crawling between the folds of their clothes, or skittering across their desk. This, combined with their tendency to refer to themself with the royal “we,” has generated conspiracy theories amongst the acolytes that Eyne is not actually a dragon, but a colony of insects masquerading as one. Preposterous, of course; it would take a miracle of coordination for a swarm of bugs to cast the kinds of spells Eyne knows.
