“Sleep little ones as I sing to you.”


Point to the most attractive dragon in the lair, and you got Irfia the beautiful coatl of the clan.

Irfia was a natural beauty, with her pallid shades of lavender and shimmering white, studded with shining gems. A black bow, tied with a flourish, rested on her arm, highlighting her pastel hues. The mask on Irfia's face did nothing but accentuate her splendor, and emphasized her amethyst eyes, which hid a spark of brilliant intelligence that most dragons had the mistake of overlooking. They were usually too dumbfounded by her to speak.

Of course, when dragons did come up to her, she typically shied away, blushing fiercely as she did so. You could say Irfia was a naturally timid dragon at first glance. But despite her initial awkwardness with dragons, she had one weakness, and that was hatchlings.

Clan mates didn’t understand her obsession, but they didn’t particularly mind it. In fact, they encouraged it, frequently presently Irfia with hatchlings to take care of: it made her glow with joy, seeing the babies prance around her on bounding paws and hurtle clumsily through the air with frail wings.

Often, in the shadows that blanketed the cave every night, a soft voice trailed through the darkness. The song rolled and flowed in the ancient dialect of coatls, the soothing voice dawdling in the dim light of night. It was a song meant to lull babies into arms of sleep, but it was unspoken tradition for clan mates to stay up and sway to the lulling music, unbeknownst to the crooning coatl.

Gentle, singing, intelligent Irfia. She was the grace of the clan, their elegant, curving star, breaking through the black of night with her voice - even stars needed the dark to shine.
