As a hatchling in the Summer Squalls' lair, the characteristic that most dragons noticed about young Thayn was her unfailing politeness, even more noticeable to those who knew her father. It was always 'please' and 'thank you' with the young skydancer. Behind other dragons' backs, it was another story as Thayn showed a distinct sense of superiority to all but a few dragons who earned her respect. It was Ignis who first offered Thayn a direction for her keen intellect, introducing her to a distance acquaintance of his, Baldwin. A curious Wind dragon at heart, once she discovered alchemy, she never looked back. Though a devoted student of alchemy, her first few years at the study were more destructive than anything. She lacked the skill to prevent her experiments from exploding, which has made her a little jumpy. Even years later, it doesn't take much to startle the skydancer and those who know her are always careful to announce their presence when entering her work room. When Ignis prepared to leave the Squalls and found a community based on the pursuit of knowledge, Thayn was one of the first dragons he thought of. Even if many dragons view alchemy as little more than haphazard chance, Ignis knows that Thayn is more thorough than most, carefully documenting her experiments and, most importantly to the coatl, testing them for repeatability. As a result of this and Thayn's subsequent respect of the older dragon, she accepted his invitation to join the Acolytes. |
As a result of her love for alchemy and her preference for gathering her materials herself, Thayn has learned self-defense fighting from both of the trained Acolytes, Ignis, and Thayn's half-brother, Imona. Though she lacks her brother's control over Wind magic, she has shown some skill at hand-to-hand and is easily able to cover some of her weaknesses with the potions she brews. She still has a superiority complex, though, and is on uneasy terms with more than one dragon in the lair. To her younger half-brother, she is protective, a tendency Imona often resents, although he appreciates the thought behind it. her relationship with Korgu is strained as well, as she feels the spiral judges her for taking her work seriously. The two do tolerate each other, though, in the name of Ignis' dream and and are perfectly willing to share results and information with one another. Thayn is one of few Acolytes who have almost no connections remaining outside of the Acolytes. She doesn't care much about her father who showed little interest in her as she was growing up and was always far too busy with her experiments to make friends among the other Squalls. The only exception is Opacare who was never bothered enough by Thayn's back-biting to keep from asking for ingredients when Thayn would go out exploring. |
