Biography
an unnamed spirit
“Aiee,” the Tundra croaks, slamming the base of its staff into the earth. The birds fall silent; the wind itself seems to stop. Magic hangs thick in the air like moisture on a hot day. A tengu screams, the cry distorted by distance. “An omen,” the unsteady creature declares. “Of what,” questions Lyssira. A frown pulls the corners of her eyes down. “Death,” the Shaman announces, and with that, it leaves. O, the Shaman. A dear spiritual advisor, this ethereal Tundra existed on the land called Cloudburst before even the Windsinger knew it was his to give away - or so it claims. Appearing like a sudden stormcloud and disappearing just as quickly, the Shaman is a feared and respected creature in Cloudburst and its warnings are taken as seriously as any other. The purple dragon is feared by many in Cloudburst. Dragons whisper of curses and sacrifice. Parents warn their children that the Shaman will eat them if they don’t behave. Still others bring it offerings, to bring luck and blessings upon themselves, their families, and their land. It is said that to anger the Shaman will bring about the destruction of the village, and so great care is taken to never offend the feathered Tundra. Rumors abound, and amongst the tales is one of a strange Aviar who grew so enamoured with the Sea of A Thousand Currents that it sought to become a Aviar-Maren. The result was a seabird, cloaked in crisp black and white feathers with a vibrant beak, who could neither swim nor fly properly. The Aviar-Maren sought aid from the dragons, and the Windsinger found pity in his heart for the misshapen Beast and so granted it draconic form in exchange for guarding the land. Many believe this to be the origin of the Shaman, although none would dare speak this within earshot. The Furian Noctanos, a vicious creature towards all but the Shaman, accompanies the Tundra. Feared as much as its ""owner"", the purple reptile is a reliable gatherer for the Shaman and occassionally spooks dragons who are foraging. It is rarely seen except for glimpses in the edges of the vision. |
