Biography
LAIR FOR THE LOST AND SEARCHING
OBCASUS
Writer Poet Editor |
Melancholy | Philosphical | Pensive
Obcasus resigned herself to leaving her original lair early on in life. She wasn't tricky like the others, sadly, so she clearly wasn't meant to be there. She would have to set out on her own; she'd probably get lost or robbed or murdered or something along those lines. And if she didn't, she probably wouldn't find anywhere to live anyway, or at least nowhere better than the lair she was already in. In such a large world, who would even notice? She would spend hours alone in the darkest parts of the Tangled Wood, contemplating life and how it never seemed to go her way. Eventually the others got so sick of her lamenting her lot in life that they told her to either leave if she wanted to, or stay and shut up about it. Hurt and trying to make them feel bad, she left - but they did not come after her to bring her back. Even more despondent, Obcasus roamed aimlessly through the Scarred Wasteland until she reached the edge of the Starfall Isles. She would have turned back - the Scarred Wasteland was a much more poetic place to be for a saturnine reject of the world such as herself - but that she was found by a huge black Imperial, dark as the darkest night. He seemed to know where he was going, and she liked his silence (as much as she could like anything, sombre as she was) so she accompanied him back to the teahouse. She didn't have anywhere else to go, anyway. As soon as she stepped into the teahouse she made to turn around and leave. There was altogether too much frivoloty here, they would never like her, the joviality was far too grating - but at a nod from Ravenstag, Aude leapt across the room and pulled the little pearlcatcher in. She sat Obcasus at a table and brought her food; fussed over her sunset colours and gave the warmest welcome she could muster. When she found Obcasus met all questions with gloomy yet philosophical answers, Aude pulled Aurumetsanguis over to chat - and for the first time in a long time, Obcasus truly enjoyed a conversation. Surprised by not just being told to shut up and stop being sad, by just being treated as if this was a normal conversation, she found that without trying she actually had become just a little... happy. By the end of the evening, she even found herself smile once as Aurum made a joke. For the very first time she resolved to really make an effort to join in, and from that moment she began to become a part of the clan. Obcasus is, despite her bright colouring, a supremely melancholy individual. Some would go so far as to call her a buzzkill but the sullenness she had upon her arrival has lifted tremendously since she found a home here, leaving only a general air of gloom. Although pessimistic she's not unlikable; she's not critical of others at all, just despondent about the world in general. She's surprisingly practical when it comes to planning and has a canny way with words; she's a brilliant writer and can make even the most dull subject fascinating to read about. In fact, Obcasus has arguably the most talent of any of the clanmembers when it comes to language and writes the most beautiful poetry; some of it is even just atmospheric instead of depressing. Editing is another skill of hers, and almost all the academics of the lair have come to her at some point for help in writing up something-or-other. She has become fast friends with Lacusvapos and gets on quite well with Sky. Her friendship with Quaesitor is also deep, well bonded over words and how to use them to manipulate the reader's attention. When Malik first joined the clan the others tried to be nice to him, but she watched as their overt kindness and concern embarrassed him and pushed him to withdraw more. Not having lived through what he had she couldn't pretend to understand his pain exactly, but she certainly felt like she understood him on some level. In a very rare move for Obcasus (which had a lot of dragons talking) she would sometimes just go and sit by him, not talking, or just making small talk. Sometimes she'd talk to him about her poems. It didn't take long for him to begin to improve, nor did it take long for them to begin their courtship. Malik is the only dragon that can always bring a smile (however small, and however brief) to her face.
