? Brechban
??? & ???
Brechban Centaurs
About:
Pronounced "Breck-ben", otherwise known as "Breach Band" Centaurs, are wayward and outcast from herds around many lands of Sornieth, either lost by unfavorable means against their will, or by exile.
A rough and somewhat disorganized gathering, their laws and culture are always changing and adjusting as their own haphazard new herd grows and adapts to the often harsh and dangerous life of Dragonhome, as it is not a country their peoples are native to.
Their name has a variety of meanings, though primarily being that they have centered themselves near an area of the Greatwyrm's Breach, and know themselves to be better described as a band of rogues and isolationists more often than a proper herd.
Identification:
Brechbans are (so far as recorded) of a mottled hide with manes and tails of varied hues and highlights, though always kept relatively natural earthy tones to better blend into the landscape.
Additionally, every member of of the Breach Band must go through a ritual tattooing of detailed and dense patterns or runes in bands along their bodies.
These tattoos are often of slightly more varied color, or are darker or bolder across their hide, but still relatively earthy in tone.
Abilities:
Of the varied abilities among the individuals of the herd, there is one spell they must all learn, which is often tied into their tattoo as an enchantment to aid them all; something they refer to as "Wyrmshape".
This is an ability that is taut almost immediately upon entering the herd, as their lives may depend on it in their encounter with any number of local dragons. And given that all founding Brechbans are rogues by nature, their questionable history has given many of them an unsavory reputation to many native inhabitants, including a few native beast clans, though thankfully not all.
While their ability to take the form of a dragon will give them the physical strength and form over long periods, there are unique limitations;
- Cannot innately use magic of that dragon's element.
- Cannot remain in Wyrmshape indefinitely.
- Cannot reproduce while Wyrmshaped.
- Cannot use breath weapon.
Generation:
Given that the Brechbans are Centaurs born strictly of their own species and not by any means of production via Wyrmshape, they have no dragonic lineage before them.
Breed:
The manner in which the Brechban take a Wyrmshape is a difficult and exhausting process, requiring physical and mental conditioning, meditation, and a collection of relics both organic and magic in nature.
Unlike many forms of magic transformations of the realm, given the nature of the Brechban's willpower to survive, their grasp of this form of magic is more spiritual and attuned to their mental strength and personality. Thus, the Wyrmshape they take is based more so on their personality and will than that of any element. This is also why unless an individual Brechban has already attuned itself to any element of a powerful degree, they "naturally" have no mastery of any element as a dragon, nor a breath weapon.
