[BSJ] Last-Minute Luncheons - Day 1

Honeycrisp was very sorry that she'd disturbed the busy looking Nocturne. She'd mainly been following her nose as she wandered around the fairgrounds, reminded of her birth clan with every breath she took. While she loved her home in the Tangled Woods, festivals like these served to remind her just how much she'd loved her birth clan, her parents and the delicious food they served!!

She nodded in response to whatever it was the Nocturne was saying and was very surprised to have some food shoved into her arms!! She must admit, she was barely paying the poor Nocturne any attention, mostly caught up in reminiscing about her past. She inquired politely why the Nocturne had given her these food items and was informed that she had been given these so she could help. Honeycrisp smiled at the Nocturne. 'I am an apprentice chef, so I'll try my best!' She bowed to the Nocturne and inquired where she might set up to try cooking with the food. The Nocturne took her to a cooking station out of the way of all the hustle and bustle of the rest of the chefs and cooks rushing around.

Looking at the ingredients she was given, Honeycrisp decided to make a sweet dessert for the Nocturne's approval. She began by washing the potash peaches then peeling the skins off of them, making sure to catch all the juices in a basin and then mashing them up in the same basin as the juices, making a potash peach mash. She then ground up some of the cinnamon, mixing it into a bowl of icing sugar for a topping. She washed the strawberries, coring them and placing them into a bowl. She then plucked all the petals from the pink roses and placed them onto a tray and coated them in a sugar paste. She then put them into a oven for 10 mins to melt the sugar. She plucked all the petals from the Smolderpetal flowers and placed them on another tray. She then put them into the same oven after she removed the rose petals for cooling, turning the oven up 10 degrees and allowing the petals to roast.

As all the ingredients began to be ready, Honeycrisp looked for a nice glazed serving plate. She found one with the Lightweaver's emblem on it and began to serve her dish. She began by placing the peach mash in rows, matching the emblem; she then placed the cored strawberries artfully around the peach emblem, and then scattered the candied rose petals and roasted Smolderpetals around. She thought it looked very delicious, and that was without the finishing touch!! She dusted the entire dish with the cinnamon laced icing sugar, and garnished the dish with a few sticks of cinnamon for looks and was finally finished. She took the finished dish to the Nocturne and then wandered off to explore the rest of the festival. After all, if the Nocturne wished her to know how they found her creation, she was sure they'd find her!!

[BSJ] Last-Minute Luncheons - Day 2

Honeycrisp enjoyed the experience of inventing and cooking a dish so much that she decided to head back to meet Zap again. She was pleasantly surprised to have more ingredients shoved into her arms again. She nodded along to Zap's instructions and privately panicked a little in her mind. Seafood!! She had no idea what to do with seafood. Her mentor hadn't started on seafood in her lessons yet. Honeycrisp took a deep breath, tried her hardest to project competence and headed to a nearby food prep station.

She placed the ingredients onto the bench and began to stare at them blankly. She had no idea how to do this! She smacked herself in the face with the edge of her wing and quietly scolded herself. 'Snap out of it, we can do this. We decided to learn to cook, and this is merely a stepping stone to our success.' She pumped her fist, then looked around sheepishly, hoping no one saw that. She blew out a breath, lucky! No one was watching. She pulled her mentor's notes out of her satchel and began scanning the pages for any recipes including seafood. She smiled as she found a recipe for fish burgers, which she felt could be adjusted to make the requested fish cakes.

S he began by washing all the seafood in cool water. She deveined the shrimp and removed all the guts. She then put the shrimp into a boiling pot of water, watching carefully for them to turn bright red. Once red, she scooped them out and placed them into a bath of ice water to cool. After this step she set up a steaming pot for cooking the oysters and floaters. She lightly cooked them, watching them very carefully per instructions, and as soon as they displayed the signs of being cooked, she transferred them into a bowl to cool. She then pressed the honeycomb fragments to remove all the honey within, collecting it in another bowl. She dithered about what to do with the speckled petunias, and then decided to keep them raw, and use them as decoration.

She then started preparing all the other ingredients needed. She peeled, cubed and boiled the potato onions; draining them well and placing into a bowl and mashing them. She then sliced up some wild onions. She then roughly chopped up some clover and ground up some acorns for flour. She then rummaged around in the cupboards looking for some oil to fry up the fish cakes in, finally spotting some Aether cherry oil and locating a deep pan, she emptied the oil into the pan and placed it onto a burner, ready for heating. She then walked to the fridge and grabbed out a bottle of Heardbeast milk and 2 snapping turtle eggs. She then returned to the cupboards to find some breadcrumbs.

She finally started combining everything after finishing all the prep work. She combined the chopped-up seafood, onions, clover, lemon rind and lemon juice with the mashed potatoes. She then seasoned them with some salt and pepper and made sure to wash her claws thoroughly before mixing them all together. She then formed the mixture into patties and placed them onto a plate and covering it with cling wrap before placing them into the fridge for 30 minutes. After around 25 minutes, she started to heat the oil in the pan and then she started to beat the milk and eggs together in a bowl. She then placed the acorn flour in another bowl, and the breadcrumbs into the third bowl. She coated each patty in the acorn flour, then dipping them into the egg mixture, then the breadcrumbs. She placed each patty in the hot oil and fried both sides of the patties until golden brown. She then arranged the patties onto a plate and garnished the dish with the speckled petunia petals. She then took the dish to Zap and wished her good luck with the ambassador.

[BSJ] Last-Minute Luncheons - Day 3

Honeycrisp eagerly made her way to the festival grounds. She was shocked at the large hole and hoped no-one had been hurt in it. She made her way to the kitchens and looked for Zap. She couldn't see him, but a fae flew up to her, chirped and shoved a small wooden box into her claws. She assumed that this was the challenge for today, so she merrily wandered over to an open workstation and placed the box down. She opened it to find 5 honeycomb fragments. She was beyond confused. Did they want them to use the honey and then choose the other stuff? ........ Welp, challenge accepted!! Honeycrisp's wings shivered in happiness as she tore through the pantry looking for some ingredients to combine with the honey and make an delicious dish! She spotted a bunch of different insects and decided to make candied bugs!!

S he began by washing all of the bugs and then drying them thoroughly. She then coated them all in honey and placed them into the fridge to set. She then arranged them attractively onto a serving platter and gave the fae the platter.

[BSJ] Last-Minute Luncheons - Day 9

Honeycrisp had been very ill for a while and was now only coming back to the festival. She made her way to the kitchens and encountered Zap as she entered. Zap explained what her impossible task was, and how much it would help if Honeycrisp could figure something out. She walked over to the station and looked over the ingredients.

S he smiled. Zap may not know how to do ice-cream with these ingredients, but Honeycrisp's mentor was taught by a wily old Fae who was from the Ice territory originally and had grown up eating this dish. She gathered what she would need, cleaned all the berries and cored them. She then placed all of the different berries into a blender with enough milk to come up to the halfway level of the berries. She then hit the power and watched as the berries and milk blended together into a pale purple liquid. She then chopped the bananas into 2cm chunks and dumped them into the blender as well. She then hit the power button again and watched as the bananas disappeared into the mix. After all this, she poured the liquid into a freezer container and covered it with cling wrap and placed it into the freezer to set for 4 hours. She informed Zap that she would be back in 3 hours and wandered off to explore.

After the 3 hours had passed, Honeycrisp made her way back to the kitchen and went to the freezer and peeked at the container. It all looked right, so she closed the door and began to make the candied blue rose petals to decorate each bowl of the ice-cream with. She cooked them in the oven for 10 mins and set them aside to cool. She then placed them into a bowl and took the ice-cream out of the freezer. She then took each item to Zap and told her to keep the ice-cream in the freezer until serving time.
