As the twin sister of Auriel, Aeri had developed a strong maternal instinct, fostered by years of seeing her gentle brother weeping over the death of a bird. Aeri was less empathetic, so she chose to serve as hunter, instead of a gatherer. The twins grew apart as Aeri grew up faster, maturing at a greater pace than her brother, who preferred to hang onto his childhood. Once Aeri came of age, she chose to travel, experiencing more of the world. From the Starfall Isles to the Shifting Expanse, she reveled in the wonders she came across, and spent almost twenty years flitting from one place to the next. If asked, she would say that her favorite place was the Tent-City that Wind Flight builds every two months for the purpose of trading. Eventually drawn back to the Anaey Clan by the lure of a somewhat steady and yet interesting and ever-changing life in the Cavernas Altorum, she took up a post as guard on the smuggling missions run across the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Joining her was Tulio, a Skydancer guard looking for exciting experiences to hopefully shake off the veil of grey that had glazed his eyes for most years past. Aeri walked over him at first, pushing him to make decisions and, in her words to her mother Taeria, "grow a spine." Eventually, Taeria took Aeri aside to talk to her and explain that incessant pushing would get her nowhere with Tulio, and that if she was set on having him as a partner and husband, she would need to relate to him and take a different approach to showing him the wonders of the universe. Aeri took her words to heart, although it was somewhat of a radical adjustment. It took time, and both Aeri and Tulio changed for each other, Aeri helping Tulio to find life in the world again, and Tulio learning to push back and keep Aeri from walking all over him. While they tried many times for children, only one out of eight hatchlings survived. Aeri was heartbroken and Tulio very nearly lost all of his hard work towards escaping the grey fog, and they doted on their remaining son, Eidre. |
