The son of a clan warrior and his mate, Bud spent his early childhood learning how to fight. He and his nest mate siblings fought constantly, honing skills they knew they would use later in life. Their parents allowed them to roam further afield than perhaps they should have, but Myrto had taught the children well. He also sent with them a familiar to watch over each of them whenever they went out.

One day, when the three were adolescents closer to adulthood than the egg, they wandered into the Training Fields. Their boisterous play attracted the attention of nearby animals and soon enough the three of them were attacked. The three of them defended themselves as best they could, but relentless attacks from a particularly vicious Luna Mith quickly wore them down. Myrtilus went first, followed by her brother Storm. A wounded Bud managed to escape and flew as fast as he could back to the clan's lair. Myrto and the other warriors rushed back to the training fields. It was too late, though. Storm, Myrtilus, and their familiar guardians were gone.

Myrto organized a search for his missing children, but they were nowhere to be found. Heartbroken, he took Bud and returned to the clan lair, sure that his other two children were dead. Bud couldn't accept this, however, and so soon after, he set out to find his missing siblings. He never found them.

Instead, he found two unconscious dragons.
