Drift

She was chased, hunted down, and all but exiled by a paranoid clan who’s leaders had been usurped. He had ensured that many of the dragons of the clan were gone, killed, exalted, or any other way he could think of to get rid of those he deemed disloyal or likely to revolt. Her parents had thought it was over when they had settled in to have a clutch. They were so, so wrong. When the nest hatched he was there, and was disturbed, revolted, and afraid when he saw the one, single hatchling who had hatched with bright white and red colors. He had screamed and lunged for the hatchling, who’s mother had grabbed her and began to run, taking the young Tundra away from the lair in which she had hoped to raise her. But they would not find peace, not for a long time. Her mother did what she could to get treasure, to save up so she could finally hide her daughter, now named Drift, in a way only magic could. Eventually, one night, her mother woke her, reading off a scroll to her daughter, scaring her. But for the first time that fear was ignored. The young one changed until she was no longer a Tundra like her siblings and her mother. That was the night they finally caught up with the duo. They saw the torches and heard the voices long before the hunting party reached them. It was then that Drift’s mother sent her away, telling her to head back the way they had originally come, back toward the Ashfall Waste.

She never found out what happened to her mother, though she had her suspicions. She had been grabbed, dragged behind some form of cover by another dragon, who stood out white against the black soot of the waste. She was led by the mysterious skydancer, who told her of things she never would have imagined could be happening, and yet what she was told made sense. It made things make sense. She knew, by the time they reached the lair overlooking the ocean, that those things were true, but still she was suspicious when she was asked to join her and a fae within the lair. What else did she have? No lair, no family, nothing to lose and everything to gain. She hesitantly agreed, and now she stands as one of the highest ranked assassins in the clan, still waiting for the day she gets an opportunity to go back home and destroy the dragons who put her mother to death.
