Biography
|
After a particularly unfortunate encounter, Aysu decided that it wasn’t her nature that was the problem at all. No, she was going about looking for a lover all wrong! She needed a mate who was beautiful like her.
After months of further fruitless searching, she decided to journey back to her home in the Fishspine Reef, just to get away.
And there, moping, she was approached by Urania. As soon as she saw her, Aysu knew something was different. Urania’s compliments were heartfelt in a way that none of her suitors’ had ever been. They spent several blissful days together, playing among the waves of the Tidelord's domain, feasting upon sardines, talking long into the night cuddled in each other's arms while watching the moon rise. But Aysu didn't feel the pull of the deeps the way Urania did. As reluctant as she was to leave her new-found heartmate, Aysu recognized that she would not be happy living in her homeland forever. Before she resumed her journey, she exchanged spinel rings with Urania. They chose their special gemstone together, for its positive properties; spinel is believed to protect its owner from harm, to assist in reconciling differences, and to help soothe away sadness. To these communal meanings, they added their own: celebration of their bisexuality and a vow to never forget each other. Just before she departed, Urania gave Aysu one last gift, a Blue-Lipped Thresh, as celebration for her love's beauty. Now, whenever she sees one, Aysu collects it, as a reminder of her heartmate's love for her and of all things watery. On her travels, Aysu came across Obrad. Her old haughtiness rose up inside her at his compliments and his gifts... but she was different now. Urania had taught her how to love. Now, she could understand and appreciate his earnestness. But she still struggled to put aside her old memories and her selfishness. Yet... strangely enough, her difficulties seemed to fascinate rather than repel him. What was she supposed to make of that? |
She had no idea how he did it, and was afraid to ask: his dedication to and support of her was almost frightening.
And yet... she had come to love him as fiercely as Urania.
When they settled in Deoradhan-Kunibert, they had two clutches together - and it seemed that their children were wanderers. Alcides returned to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, joining Urania as navigator of her airship. Their daughters, Anat and Asenath, returned to their father's home in the Viridian Labyrinth, eventually choosing to serve the Gladekeeper. And Ilmari - like the air he was named after - simply continued to drift from clan to clan.
Yet they received a traveler of their own: Cansu, Urania's son, came to live with them. He and Indra - their only child to remain at home - became friends. And hatched a harebrained scheme between them.
She had to admit that her son utilized her own knack for flower arrangement to vibrant effect, for she and Obrad became florists in Deoradhan-Kunibert.
