Silence. The crack of ice. The sigh of the wind on empty water. The crunch of footsteps. Cool breath on the nape of your neck.

Sometimes there is not even that amount of warning.

Rau has aptly earned their title as The Voiceless, but that is not the only part of them that is muted.

Rau exists in a world void of sound, the only constant in their world is the creak of shifting ice and the thrum of life in the air. They breathe this essence of life and support and sustain the clan through their very existence. They see all, especially what you most want to hide.

Kind, caring, and parental, Rau's presence in the clan's lair is a comfort to all. They keep the clan together, they deal with all of the intricacies of leadership and management, but they do not involve themselves personally with the clan. So rarely do they have any cause to speak that many in the clan (especially guests and young hatchlings) do not even know of their inability to do so. All of their work is subtle, behind the scenes, and they ask for little praise. The clan is their home - they have been in this lair since their hatching and have never had cause to leave. Nerija and Ahnar discovered them and built up the clan around the silent snapper, and they have been content ever since.

Very few members of the clan get to know Rau on a more personal level. Most know of their existence, and it is not uncommon for Rau to watch over the newest hatchlings brought into the clan (there is little better than a snapper jungle-gym), but they are almost a piece of furniture, a part of the lair. This is often done not out of disrespect - by any means - but it is hardly as if Rau minds. In fact, they way they tend to blend into the background is something they prefer.

Some might think that being unable to speak or listen to others would hinder their understanding, but the opposite is quite true in Rau's case. All dragons wishing the join the clan must be approved by them and their harsh judge of character, and their insight into other dragons is unparalleled. They understand your heart inside and out, without ever hearing you speak one word.
