When Neophytos was taken in by the nest, he was still only a hatchling and nothing much to look at. Someone was curious to see how he’d turn out, and over the years he was given fancy clothes and magic scrolls. Beyond his open dislike of the Stormcatcher’s baking deserts, he didn’t say much and kept to himself, and so everyone more or less assumed that he was horribly lost or on some ridiculous quest and had completely given up.
You know what they say about assumptions…


He started volunteering for the temporary position of Nestleader more and more often, and seeding rumors about leaving the Stormcatcher’s service, until announcing abruptly that he was in charge for the indefinite future, and that the Nest would be moving once the final eggs in the nesting grounds had been hatched. Most of the clan was so unsettled by the rumors and so used to seeing him as their representative at this point that they willingly (if warily) followed him.


How Neophytos is going to keep the rest of the clan in line remains to be seen, however. Despite their hemming and hawing and procrastinating, the Nest is motivated by the promise of new places to explore and new things to learn more than anything, and once they’ve become familiar with their new territory he’ll have to find a way to keep them occupied - especially with dragons like Azrial and Coolaid just waiting for him to slip up.
