Biography

Sumo
* you hear music start to play. it sounds morose and filled with regret.
czCeN7rm.jpg
Part of Coli Team Alpha (Broken). Now Part of Coli Team Beta.

Sumo was born and raised a Shadow dragon. His family was delighted when he emerged from his egg colored with dark purple and grey, a sign of a true dragon of the darkness. He had practiced in the arts of dark magic and abilities since he was a hatchling. His royal family was intensely involved in his upbringing, as they wanted to be certain he would know how to master the Shadowed arts. *writers block*

When he was reaching maturity and preparing to be integrated into the higher positions of royalty, he started to notice a grave phenomenon. Thin, wispy black tendrils and clouds would catch his eye from time to time. They almost always vanished as he turned, but it troubled him incessantly. On the eve before he was to take the position, Sumo was dressed in layers of jewels and golden silk that swayed and clinked gently as he moved about. He glanced outside at the setting sun, awaiting the stars, as he would spend hours gazing up at them every night. However, as he turned to look back inside, the tendrils reappeared and did not fade away. They inched closer and closer, with no intention of stopping. Sumo turned and backed further into his chamber, his mind racing. The tendrils sped up as he began to hear faint, raspy whispers. Tensions grew and grew until Sumo snapped and flew across the room and burst out of the entrance. He could not yet fly, as his wingspan was much shorter than other Imperials of his age, but he fled violently nonetheless. He careened off of trees and boulders, flinging his body in all directions and roaring so intensely it was heard even by the Coatl Emperors of the Ashfall. Crashing and clanging shot through the cold air as Sumo escaped, never to be seen by any members of the Royal Shadow family again.

The royals were devastated when they discovered Sumo's empty quarters. The King and Queen could not produce another heir for countless moons, and they feared they would never be able to. As he fled, his ornate garments had been stripped from him upon collision with rocks and trees, and the Queen collected any that remained intact. She strung them up for the kingdom to see on a line of silks she fashioned from scraps, hoping one day Sumo would see them and return home.

He never did.

---

Sumo demolished a path through the thick Shadow forests, trampling the soft glowing mushrooms and knocking over trees almost triple his own height. The tendrils raced after him, smoothly veering around any obstacles in their path. As he ran, he scouted potential escape options. He could lose them in a deep cave, or trick them into thinking he slipped away. Nothing seemed like a viable option. As he vaulted over a boulder, he had an epiphany. He threw his claws into the earth and turned with a jerk. The tendrils appeared intrigued, and they paused to assess the situation. Sumo gave a violent cry and swung at one of the tendrils with his mastered Shadow magic. This was completely ineffective, and seemed to, in fact, fuel the tendrils further. With a whisper that resembled almost a chuckle, they began their mad chase once more.

Maybe that was what they were after, Sumo thought. They wanted to harness his magic for whatever nefarious purpose. Confused and fatigued, he kept on his path of demolition until he crashed out of the forest and onto a cliff. A ledge extended out from the cliff face, and without hesitation, he barreled down it. Sumo had no time to assess what he was about to do. He took one look behind him, glanced at the roaring ocean below, and plunged off the rock.

The tendrils halted immediately, seemingly watching the Imperial plummet before quietly fading into the hazy nighttime air. Sumo had no way to look back as he carefully opened his wings to lessen the fall. He knew they would be of little use. He could see a sprawling green landmass farther ahead of him and knew where he would have to go. He was going to have to swim. Just as he decided on his next action, he hit the water below. Rocks jutted out from the inky blackness, one scraping him directly across the eye. *he swims to the nature territory*

---

Sumo dragged himself onto the grass from a stream that led out to the sea. He paused on the soft ground to catch his breath before glancing around. The land was vibrant and full of life. Flowers of all colors dotted the spaces in between trees and ferns. Streams carried sparkling clear water throughout the earth and ended in roaring waterfalls. The soft buzzing of insects hung in the air.

As Sumo paused and drank in the surroundings, he saw a hazy grey and blue lump moving towards him. As it got closer, he noticed it moved on two legs and had curved claws. Wary, he narrowed his eyes, scrunching up his fresh scar, and let out a low grunt. The blur continued to move closer. He heard it calling out. Something about its voice made him feel protected, although he continued to hesitate.

It finally reached him, and he discovered it to be another dragon. The patterns on its body were bright and asymmetrical, and it was all different shades of grey and sea green and bright blue. It wore strings of soft brown feathers and delicate bird skulls across its wings, and one massive skull on its head, bright feathers extending from it. Tiny drops of citrus colored jewels hung from the strings, and it swished its tale cautiously. A thick plating the color of clean ivory covered its tail, and he noticed the yellow boots as well. It introduced itself as Vivecca, Warrior of the Labyrinth.

Vivecca led Sumo to her residence in the trees. The pair conversed past dusk and into the early sunrise. Sumo told her about the tendrils, and she explained the origin of the Shade. She agreed that they were after his mastery of magic and vowed she would protect him so long as he lived in her territory. Sumo hesitantly told her of the vow he was going to make. He had decided he wanted to embrace Light instead of his bloodline of Shadow. While it was too late to learn the magic of the Light, he was still able to carry on Light traditions and pursue its goals. He would feel safer that way, and less like a failure or a target. Vivecca also promised to support him.

Years and years passed that the two shared together. They traveled the lands, fending off beastclans and reclaiming territory. As per his vow, Sumo removed the last of the tattered jewels and silks and donned golden armor instead. On one of their missions to the Sunbeam Ruins, they came across a massive feathered boar. Upon defeat, Sumo found he could skin it and create a new hide. Dozens of fights later, he had enough pelts to craft a new appearance. After years of training, he finally felt as if he was born a true Light dragon.

Eventually, the thrill of battle began to wear the pair down. They retired to the Scarred Wasteland for a few moons. During this time, they agreed to attempt to conceive an heir for Sumo to send back home. While he was petrified of returning, he did not wish for his family to be left completely helpless. They managed to have one son, an Imperial by the name of Kurloz. He was raised in the Wasteland until he was mature, and Sumo sent him off to find the family. He never made it there, however, as he instead wanted to practice alchemy and study medicine and left for the Wyrmround. Although he was heartbroken, Sumo did not try to challenge Kurloz and saw him off with pride. They could try for another heir later.

That would never happen.

---

Something peculiar began to happen. After returning to the Viridian Labyrinth, Sumo noticed a change in Vivecca. She began to snap at anything and everything. Her magic became stronger, but she also began leaking vibrant green poison from her mouth. Her teeth grew out into fangs, and the feathers of her birdskull grew out into a hairlike covering that flowed down her neck and shoulders. She was overly eager to enter battle and completely destroy whatever enemy lay on the other side. She would even threaten him when tensions got to be too high. This frightened Sumo greatly, and he began to wonder if it was the Shade's doing. Countless nights went sleepless.

One calm night, he slipped away from their treetop chamber and fled once again, turning back only once.

---

The years after that all blurred together. He traveled around but never quite felt safe. He met another dragon that he ended up becoming friends with. Rebar, Warrior of the Sunbeam Ruins, spent a year or two with Sumo. The pair traveled in the Ruins, learning about Light magic and ideals. He would meet Rebar again very shortly after their parting.

Sumo found himself wandering back into the forests of Shadow. He met a very small clan nestled in a cave system in the forest and asked if he could find shelter there. This would become his permanent home. He found Rebar was living there to continue his magical training. Unfortunately, it also happened to be where Vivecca traveled to after learning of his desertion.

The three were asked to be on the clan's defense team, and Vivecca hastily agreed. Rebar thought it best to improve his skill through the team. Sumo was extremely hesitant, but was pressured in by the clan leader, who could see his impeccable skill. For years, the team fought in the various areas surrounding the clan to dispatch beastclans. Sumo had very little trouble with Vivecca, who seemed to have focused her violence into the enemy only. However, there was still unspoken tension between them, and he could tell she still cared. This was addressed by neither while the team was active.

The defense team struggled greatly for many years. They experienced a great amount of events together. Recruiting beastclan members, taking down leading enemies, and discovering new areas were the highest points for all of them. There were low points as well, some of which nearly caused Sumo to leave the team. They lost a great number of battles. During one fateful encounter, Rebar was fatally injured and had to be brought back with technology. But the team trekked on.

Until one day.

---

A thin, brown Light dragon with cracks of red through her scales arrived at the clan on a foggy morning. Introducing herself as Garnet, she boasted an impressive skill set and was eager to join the defense team. The leader of the clan, Aichmo, thought heavily on which member to dismiss, eventually deciding on Vivecca. *bla bla bla*

Sumo watched as Vivecca fell from the rocky edge. She let out one final screech before crashing into the boulders below. When the dust settled, he peered over the edge, only to see her lifeless body partially obscured by rocks and dust. He stared down for a minute or so before turning slowly around. Garnet and Rebar looked on, Rebar's head tilting slightly and Garnet's already wide eyes growing even larger. Sumo approached them, walking the slowest he ever had before. His gaze did not lift from the dirt until he paused in front of them. None spoke a word for an eternity. Sumo lifted his gaze up to Garnet and gave a faint exhale of relief before she tackled him, wrapping herself around his neck and smiling. Rebar approached and gave him a nod. They were now free and safe.

The team consists of two Light dragons and Sumo. Garnet and Rebar vowed to protect Sumo from the Shade, as their magic is destructive towards it. Sumo is haunted nightly by dreams of the Shade and of a vengeful ghost. He is known as one of the most gentle dragons of the clan, only bringing his skills in the face of danger. The Shade still chases him occasionally, but Garnet and Rebar are never far behind. He is considered by many to be a true Light dragon. Those who do not know his story respect and revere him, and those who do treat him with the highest honor.

The Story of Sumo
____________________________________________________________________________old lore
Soft guitar music floats in from the surrounding wasteland. It begins slowly, almost remorsefully. You realize it is linked with a foreboding shadow in the distance, its presence intimidating. It notices your small figure and lifts itself up, turning ever so slowly to face you. Its footsteps are heavy, as is its gaze. Its eyes are dark yet somehow the brightest part of its body as well, despite the fact that the figure is covered horn to claw in gleaming gold armor. It has two sets of enormous horns, one twisted like a ram, the other long and branched, the horns of a stag. You notice its claws, noticeably bigger than your whole body. As it steps closer to you, the music grows ever louder, yet never grows to more than a gentle mezzo forte, medium loud. As you gaze at its long face, you suddenly notice the scar across one of its bleak, deep eyes. The figure stares down at you, its front paws directly in front of you. Slowly, again, it lowers its head in a sign of respect. You can see its eyes even clearer now. The music is at its height in volume, but has changed. You can now hear the chords portraying remorse and guilt, something reflected crystal clear in the beast's eyes.

This is a beast that has witnessed unparalleled amounts of destruction and death, quite possibly at its own claws. It wants nothing more to be rid of it but it has no choice. It fights day and night, whenever it is deemed necessary, and yet, it wants none of it. This creature has received unparalleled and unmatched glory, gold, and status, yet it has also seen unprecedented death, harm, and ruin. It bows to you, not wanting to harm you. It gazes you in the eye, the music slowly fading as it communicates by gaze. It tells you to be wary of the grey and blue menace, one who's arrival is characterized by seemingly intense yet somber music. One who wears a fallen avian's skull on its massive head, one who knows no mercy. One who's mouth drips with vile green poison and one who's claws could strike down even the largest of threats. After it has warned you, you feel a sudden, great urge to comfort the creature. It does little, but you wrap your seemingly insignificant arms around its snout. For a moment, the beast seems relaxed. Its ears spring up soon after, however, and it gently breaks your grasp. The music fades back in as the great creature lifts its head, gives you one small, understanding nod, and lumbers off to the direction from which intense, battle-hungry music can be heard. You remember the beast's last words to you.

"I sense great kindness within you. Do not let it be corrupted by the claws of war. I beg of you, be safe, call upon me when the need be great. I shall always come, when called by the pure of heart."
