Biography
Vyxondra
Twisted Miracle
Leader of the Shadeveil Sanctum
Twisted Miracle
Leader of the Shadeveil Sanctum
As the abomination Tenebris continued to grow and demand more and more sustenance, the previous leader of the Shadeveil Sanctum, Azhrekoth, began to throw troublesome dragons into the Blackwallow, where Tenebris lurks below the Sanctum. Without exception, the unfortunate souls who found themselves sentenced to this fate were dragged down under the surface of the Blackwallow's inky pools, never to reemerge. Without exception, that is, until a moment of defiance—a refusal to participate in a cruel experiment—landed Vyxondra's mother in the cavernous space beneath the Sanctum.
For reasons unknown, this dragon was spared, and when she returned from the blackness below, she brought with her a single egg. This egg would hatch into Vyxondra.
Though it's hard to say definitively that Tenebris fathered her, considering the shadowy monstrosity has hitherto been unable to procreate with normal dragons, Vyxondra adamantly maintains that this is true. Those Shadeveil dragons who believe it either fear her or follow her as an arbiter of Tenebris's will.
Where Tenebris is capricious and uncommunicative, Vyxondra is focused and leaderly. The wildclaw has a streak of vicious cunning wider than the spread of the brambles across the realm of Shadow, and her ambition led her to overthrow Patriarch Azhrekoth, taking the Shadeveil Sanctum for her own and exiling the former clanhead. While her followers celebrated this coup, there were many dragons who either remained loyal to Azhrekoth or were horrified by Vyxondra's plans for the future. These dragons either fled with their dethroned patriarch or otherwise learned firsthand what becomes of those who fall into the Blackwallow.
What Vyxondra presents as her vision for the Shadeveil Sanctum is this: a home for the horrific—the unwanted abominations, the unscrupulous experimenters. "Monstrosity is might"—that is her rallying call, and it has been heeded by more than just Tenebris's devotees. Some Plague dragons see reflected in the Blackwallow the Wyrmwound of their homeland, and twisted entities from other territories—their forms ravaged by runaway magic (or worse) and who are avoided or attacked by most other dragons—can find a home in the Sanctum.
Those who do join the ranks of the Shadeveil dragons are well cared for, and Vyxondra makes few demands. All she asks of Sanctum dwellers is that they serve when called upon...and that the pools of the Blackwallow are always kept full.
