Biography
Arranna
Persisting Progenitor
Shadeveil Sanctum Matron
Persisting Progenitor
Shadeveil Sanctum Matron
The story of many clans begins with the coalescing of two dragons—a breeding pair to produce the clan's first lineage, which often becomes central to clan hierarchy. The story of the Shadeveil dragons is no different.
Arranna came into being at the same time Azhrekoth did. She was fully prepared to take on the role of clan matriarch. She envisioned acting as a pillar of the clan, nurturing the surely numerous hatchlings and supporting the other grown dragons in service to the Shadowbinder, source of all Shadow dragons and (to Arranna) greatest of all deities. Many dragons of Shadow ascribe motherly qualities to the Shadowbinder, and Arranna identified strongly with those qualities.
Azhrekoth, however, did not see Arranna as a partner so much as a pawn to use in furthering his own agenda, which had very little to do with serving the Shadowbinder. The Arranna of those days was sweet and soft, and she could not hold out against Azhrekoth's ambition.
As long as Patriarch Azhrekoth was in power, Arranna was a Shadow dragon in more than just element—a shell of that hopeful dragon she'd been at the beginning. Resentment festered for years as she hollowly carried out the duties Azhrekoth assigned to her. While those duties had pertained to hatchlings, as Arranna had wanted, each and every one of those young dragons would be tainted by Azhrekoth's greed and malice. They were taught to be loyal to Azhrekoth, with complete disregard for the Shadowbinder. By the time Azhrekoth was overthrown, Arranna was thoroughly jaded, and the word “crone” had been used to describe her more than once.
Arranna was glad to see Azhrekoth go, convinced that anything would be better than him. She remains convinced, despite certain questionable aspects of the new Shadeveil Sanctum under Vyxondra. As much as Arranna distrusts the Plague dragons that have begun showing up and as much as Tenebris worries her, proper reverence for the Shadowbinder is finally widespread among the Shadeveil dragons, and Arranna is finally serving the role she had wanted to serve all along.
