It's not that he's vain, exactly. No, no one would go that far, but Atsul is certainly fond of his own appearance. His reasoning is that, surely, it's only logical to appreciate oneself, isn't it? How can you take pride in anything you do, if you do not first take pride in yourself?

To that end, when Atsul came to Ista, he asked himself into Marganess's workshop almost immediately, declaring that she needed an assistant. Light-born herself, the two dragons got along surprisingly well, and often form a somewhat formidable duo when they corner unsuspecting dragons and whisk them away to their stores.

Atsul often claims the honour of going to the local markets and traders to sell the clothing and silks he and Marganess make. He claims this is because she is too soft, too likely to settle for a cheap price because she likes the look of someone, or because it suits them so well. Though partly true, the real reason for his insistence is Purgestorm, an intense businesswoman from the shadow-bound Totemclan. There are very few dragons who can rile Atsul quite the way she can, with her carefully sculpted smiles and sly manipulations, and he admires her as often as he decides he despises her. He seeks, constantly, to best her in some way; to earn the most money, or perhaps get the best bargain. When she's around, however, he spends as much time watching her as his stall, and his distraction often costs him dearly.

Despite Atsul's apparently harmless occupation, he is a ruthless and driven individual. Von isn't quite sure what he thinks of Vela's criptic warnings about him, but he's sure, in the long run, it can't be good. In particular, Von is concerned about Atsul's apparent hatred of Aquillin, who is often complimented on his sleek fashion and elegant form. If things progress much further than the occasional spat, Von may have to step in for the good of all.
