The Consort Mate of Renaissance **********************
For a creature who lost most of his sight and his voice at the same time, Dread is not as bitter as one might think. Around friends and in the company of Renaissance in particular, he is an absolute menace, perpetually being sarcastic and making puns about not being able to see. As a former mirror who kept some of his thermal sense ability when he changed his breed, he has found ways around his sight problem, and his other senses have greatly increased to compensate for it. However, he usually pretends to be more helpless than he actually is around the untrusted, just to get a feel for how they act.
Little known fact: His proper name is actually Dreadnought. He thinks it sounds stiff, while his mate is of the opinion that it sounds sexy. The compromise has been not to mention it around others. |

History: Lengthy and complicated. Available to read here. Familiar: A Carmine Serthis by the name of Ashkana. A former trader and friend of Rena's, she now acts as the clan's Beastclan liaison and professional haggler. The latter is a title she made up for herself, but no one would dispute its accuracy. Charge: Renaissance. His mate is easily the single most valuable part of his life. Significant items: When Dread first lost the use of his sight, Rena decided to use the sound of her small, tinkling strands of rubies to let him know where she was and when she approached. He has since found ways to "see" using the vestiges of the thermal vision he had as a Mirror in conjunction with his other senses, but Rena still wears the bands. Eventually, Dread elected to acquire a few of his own to reciprocate the meaning of the gesture, and he wears them in her honor. Dread rarely speaks of his life before Renaissance, usually summarizing it as "unimportant", but he was wearing a set of loose, comfortably worn loops of cloth when she found him. Although they are virtually threadbare, he keeps them as a reminder of what he has survived. Other: While managing on the ground is possible, Dread can't really risk flying without a guide. When Rena cannot fulfill this role, he turns to Barrett and Lapua, who have dubbed themselves his seeing-eye nocs. Tiny as they are, they can perch behind his horns and direct his course. It requires a great deal of trust, but as there have yet to be any violent landings, the verdict appears to be so far, so good. |
