As is telling of his Flight, Drift is somewhat mysterious, though perhaps he actively tends this reputation. His visions are rarely shared, and his motivations even less so. But despite his ambition and his calculated thoughts, the male is not heartless; far from it. The clan which was Guarded by once Water would once be Guarded by Water. This prophecy combined with an unmistakable urge to protect the coastline he calls home drove the great guardian Drift to seek the responsibility of leadership of the previously leaderless clan. He took to heart the advisement of the young skydancer Kean, whose empathic abilities revealed that the driving force of the attack on the Coast led by beastclans the previous year, and the ongoing hostilities since then, was primarily fear, nurtured by both dragon and beast alike through distrust and anger toward one another. |
Using this information, Drift allied himself personally with the Talonok huntress Kali in leadership, and it was this way that Unicorn Coast drew up a treaty with the local beastclan populace, marking the coastline as a safe haven for dragons and beastfolk alike. The clan of united races took on the new name of Scalepact and outlawed any allegiances with other clans, dragon or beast, who actively engaged in war with one another.
Unlike others who had taken the responsibility of leadership in the past, Drift and Kali feel it takes a fierce, sometimes cold heart, rather than a bleeding one, to watch over a clan. Although Scalepact's agenda is more harmonious than ever before, the co-leaders make a point to enforce its laws without exception in order to prevent a massacre like Unicorn Coast's from ever happening again.
