Biography

Shadowbinder Onyx Idol tumblr_o2vhgb1Cm11uxn7f7o3_r1_500.png

shadow_rune_50x50.pngA slight dragon from the Wispwillow Grove, Erebos was curious about the world, even as a young hatchling. Though he loved the games, hiding, tricks, and shifting shadows of the tangled wood, Erebos was fascinated by tales that he heard told of tricksters who ventured far from home and returned with riches and tales aplenty and the stories of the adventures of tricksters. Wheedling a faerie he had befriended into coming with him and taking several firebugs with him, Erebos set out, travelling through the Scarred Wasteland and shrouding himself with shadows that he manipulated to avoid the dragons of the region and their notorious ferocity and into the domain of the Arcanist.

Enthralled by the wonders of the arcane and the curiosity, experiments and dreams of the denizens, Erebos dallied there for some time before his wanderlust drove him from the Crystalspine Reaches, through the domain of the Windsinger (where he found dragons even more restless than him) and that of the Flamecaller, into the Shifting expanse. Though he found the quickness and wit of the dragons intriguing, he did not stay there, but continued into the Sunbeam Ruins, where he found dragons who intrigued him greatly, with their beliefs in absolute truth. Deciding to continue to the Viridian Labyrinth and Dragonhome, Erebos visited the Sea of a Thousand Currents last and is staying here, at least for a time, intent on the shifting shadows of the sea and fascinated by the Leviathan Trench.

Before the disaster, most of the clan was slightly wary of the occasionally tricky dragon who insists on camouflaging the lair and annoyed by his faerie, to whom only he can talk and who aided him in his tricks, pranks, and surveillance. Galene often pestered him for tales of the world to record in her scrolls and bits of knowledge or questions she had that he might have be able to answer due to his travels.

Over time, they developed a close rapport and became mates, though this did little to make most of the clan less wary of him.

Not long before the disasters of the attack, Erebos, troubled by his mates worries, had ventured farther and farther from the lair. Sometimes he travelled for weeks in search of any scrap of intelligence, but little was to be found.

It was in the middle of one of these trips that the attack occured, and when he returned, he found the lair empty and fresh graves all around. Assuming that all were dead, and seeing no occupants, Erebos settled alone in the lair. Grief-stricken and lonely, he was close to completely losing himself when the clan returned.

Having moved to a temporary lair after and during the emperor incident, the clan had abandoned the lair, partly in hopes of escaping The Peacekeeper. They had no such luck. In the first temporary lair, the exact same exterior of den, with the same wards, and of the same dimensions appeared just outside the main entrance of the lair, and the next day they found the clock in the largest room. They tried once more, with the same results. At that point, they returned to the lair, now empty and ghostly, the central window cracked by the battle with the emperor, and a feeling of ruin prevailing everywhere.

Galene found Erebos alone in what had been their shared den, adjoining her office, muttering to himself and clutching one of her favorite orbs. He was petting it and murmuring to himself, half-crying. Timidly, she approached him. Hearing the sound of wings, he looked up, but in disbelief, shied away. He cried more loudly and mumbled "You're dead. Don't torment me. Go away spirit." At his words, Galene, who had managed to refrain from tears, wept. She left the room and sat outside the door, weeping. Eventually, with Nereus, Arethousa, Noelani, and Oihanna in tow, Galene re-entered. Eventually they coaxed Erebos into looking at them. And slowly, over the course of the next week, they managed to convince him they were not figments of his mind.

Erebos barely leaves Galene's side now, and is easily startled. He hopes someday he may recover, but that day is not soon.
