Vanai- The Swallow

He is no ordinary Nocturne, against everything what happened to him - and against own nature even - Vanai remained cheering and joyful dragon. It would be mistake to take his optimism for foolishness, everybody in Shemei's clan knows that this bright and colourful body hides keen, sharp mind, which he can use as a weapon just as well as his companion, Donai, uses his claws. When not found close to aforementioned Guardian, male can be seen among flock of Nocturnes Shemei surrounds herself with. It's hard to learn anything about his past that reaches further then the day on which he met Shemei. And even then only gossips surround this event - some say that female killed for her first time to save him, others say that she even had to kill other dragon. Vanai himself admits only that before he met Shemei he was in some other clan, though he refers to its members exclusively as his owners. He also says that he lost his way during one of his travels and that's when he met Ridgeback female - since then he never even tried to find his way back. From the very beginning Vanai was something more than barely pet for young female. He helped Meisha and Shemei to scavenge for food and materials and hunted alongside Oronael, somehow always preferring company of bigger dragons rather than his own kin. When Shemei started preparations for war, Vanai's wits and fast-thinking made her decide to use her creepy swarm in incoming conflict. He became crucial figure among her flock of Nocturnes, organising patrols and flying routes, but refused to fight personally, helping indirectly instead, mending wounds and traveling the world in search for fighters willing to help. With Shemei inheriting sages and scribes of clan she took, Vanai was no longer forced into role of impromptu administrator and he was completely satisfied with roaming the halls of their new lair without rhyme or reason. After another war broke out, he was reluctant to abandon his post by her side, but finally agreed to stay and take care of... captive? Guest? At this point they weren't sure how to call massive Guardian Xanael dragged into their lair. At first rather distanced, Vanai soon got tired of how surrendered Donai behaved and took it as a challenge. Since then little dragon that easily infected everyone with a smile, even in times of great distress, did anything to bring other male back to the world. At first he managed to force giant to eat something, then to allow him to properly treat his wounds. By the end of first week Donai was already sorting piles of loot Shemei's warriors just left lying around and barely few days later he talked Vanai into forming a group of Nocturnes that would help him create a decent vault out of unused halls. Unlike Donai, who is vital member of Shemei's council, Vanai never liked meddling with greater scheme of things, preferring more personal approach. Therefore, he is always there to help when something bad happens to a fellow dragon, but definitely prefers to fly around sniffing flowers when fate of whole clan is being decided. If he could change anything, he'd definitely like to somehow alter Donai schedule, so that he could spend even more time with him. |
