They say he was like the sun.

For some, he was a quiet dawn that broke through the horizon and found its way through even the smallest cracks of someone’s heart, a pervasive yet gentle warmth that brought only comfort and calm. To see him meant that the world was right, that it was good. A new day had come.

To others, he was like high noon, glaring down with unbearable, punishing brilliance. His eyes were too bright and intense to directly look at,; judging and cruel and blinding. Those who fled before him sought out shade, but their throats ran dry nevertheless and their sweat still dripped from their skin. There was no escaping his light, his agonizing heat.

And then there are the ones who would say that he was a blazing sunset; not only because of the way he painted the sky with his golden fire, not only because he was a sight beautiful enough to be the subject of painters and the muse of poets. He was a sunset, they would say, because he was always fading, because he was gone too soon, because in his absence came the pitch black of night.
