................... Raw Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli
She has no guard, no fear. I just don't get it.
Why is it so easy for her when it was so hard for me?

~ General ~
Lapis is, in one word, reclusive, keeping her distance from all but a few (namely Steven and strangely, Peridot). Lapis is incredibly anxious and prefers not to be spoken to. She is soft-spoken and usually submissive in nature, although there are times that she decides enough is enough and snaps at whoever is giving her a difficult time. Her past is shrouded in mystery and she definitely does not want to delve into it any time in the near future, although many know of her time spent as an almost emotionless being bound to a mirror by magic, almost entirely limited to using only conversations she had seen or heard and repeating them. Even after Steven freed her many moons ago, she still sometimes records conversations in the back of her head.

Towards Peridot, she's almost overly-affectionate, although it did take quite a long time for the two to even communicate with each other simply out of disinterest. However, now Lapis is almost constantly hovering around Peridot, giving her a friendly bump with her head or the occasional brush of their tails (much to Peridot's embarrassment). To Steven, she's protective and caring, offering to play with him and entertaining him with silly jokes that he had first taught her. Other than those two, she hasn't made any attempt to befriend any other dragons. She specifically avoids Garnet, Pearl, and of course, Jasper.

Lapis Lazuli does not have a set role within the clan, although she is more than happy to scavenge for objects and materials for clan members to use, even if most of her excursions are on her own, often bringing something back for Steven. She also creates pieces of art to display around her and Peridot's den.

Being bound to a mirror for thousands of years does a lot to a dragon's mind.
The days blur, feelings become primarily unattached, and you can't trust anyone. She wanted to break- just die and end the lonely torment - but the mirror didn't allow that. For Lapis Lazuli,
emotions were draining and pointless. At this point she existed only as a recorder, playing back memories for other dragons' uses.

Her mirror had been abandoned for millenia until a young Tundra named Steven found it. He didn't know what (or who) it was, and had been told that it was broken by his elders. Nevertheless,
he talked to it, becoming enthralled when it repeated something back. He visited the mirror every day, slowly coming to the realization that it was, in fact, sentient. Lapis started to feel again- an urgency and hope to escape. She let the Tundra know through visions played across the surface of her prison.

"I want to help you, what can I do?!" A large blue and gold gemstone about the size of a Skydancer's fist was encrusted on the back of the mirror, and as instructed, the little Tundra pulled it from the steel. In a flash of blue light, the delicate form of a dragon took shape. Her eyes were reflective and her wings were twisted, she stumbled on the sand.

"...Thank you."

---

At the sight of the Tundra's ancient caretakers, Lapis recognized them as the reason for her confinement and fled, after a violent show of her hydrokinesis. Steven was able to find her again, spending time just to comfort his friend and mend her broken wings. Once her wings healed and eyes finally rid themselves of the silver film, Lapis Lazuli explained that she couldn't stay, and flew back to her previous home.

--

Cue many, many stressful months of Lapis' return along with two new gems- Peridot and the ever-so-brutal Jasper - Steven and his friends tried everything they could to save her. Yes, she initially was the one holding herself and Jasper together, but as her strength ebbed, Jasper took over and still kept them bound, enjoying the power of the water-controlling dragoness way too much. Finally freeing her from Jasper's hold, and brought her back to the Briarflower Clan. At first, she was displeased to see that her former interrogator, Peridot, had become a member in her absense,
but after Steven's gentle persuasion and Peridot's very obvious change in morals (and poorly hid crush), she decided she could live with it.

One full year later, her's and Peridot's relationship has definitely done a heel-turn. They've adopted a child, set up their own little "Meep Morp" caravan, and created the clan's largest farm yet. [

~Interests~
Lapis Lazuli does have a soft spot for art and music. She enjoys things that are melancholic, and blue. Although a lot of her pieces are very literal (this is the leaf Steven gave me), she does have a bit of an eye for metaphors, especially about depression.

She doesn't enjoy the ocean as much anymore (see: Jasper), but she can appreciate the aesthetic of water without getting near it. She like flying- when she has the energy for it.

"You three knew I was in there, and you didn't do anything. Did you even wonder who I used to be?!" "I'm Lapis Lazuli, and you can't keep me trapped here anymore!"

-

"I'm done being everyone's prisoner! Now you're MY prisoner! And I'm never letting you go!

-

"For a moment, I really felt like things were different, but they're not. No matter where I go, I'm trapped."

-

"Peridot... are you okay?"

-

"I'm terrible! I did horrible things! I-I broke your dad's leg. I stole Earth's ocean! Go on! Tell me I'm wrong!"

-

"I was terrible to you. I liked taking everything out on you. I needed to. I-I hated you. It was bad!" "What we had wasn't healthy. I never want to feel like I felt with you. Never again! So just go!"

-

"Hmm... we can try it together!"
