 Fisherman"Teach A Dragon To Fish" Glitter had never known water. He grew up not seeing it, as it was forever frozen over in the Icefields, but it had always piqued his curiosity. What was under that sheet of ice? Why was it transparent, unlike the mounds of snow that surrounded him? Why was it always hidden from him? He wanted to know and so he started asking questions. He asked his elders, travelers, nomads: "What lies under the frozen snow?" The answer he received: Water. He had heard of water... and so he headed North to the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He traveled day and night until eventually he came over the rise of the plateaus. Before him was an expanse of water, as far as the eye could see. He was ecstatic! For the first time in his life, he would be able to touch the water, see what was behind the glassy ice. He approached the edge of the water and reached to touch it... but as his claw dipped in, frost seeped forth, covering the water and barring his entry. Withdrawing quickly he was terrified and saddened. He sat at the water's edge for days, pondering why he wasn't allowed to enjoy what he had always dreamed of experiencing. On the fourth day, drained and defeated, as he sat staring longingly into the sea's depths, a Guardian sprung forth from below. Startled, Glitter leaped up and fell forward and landed with a loud THUD as he hit the ice that spread from his body. Seeing this, the playful Guardian frowned and gazed at the small, hurt Coatl. Going in to comfort him, the Guardian placed his claw on Glitter's shoulder and slowly but surely the ice started melting away until suddenly Glitter's plumage was completely soaked. With the help of a new friend, Glitter was able to enjoy the water for the first time. He swam with the Guardian, seeing fish and coral that he had never seen before. He was enraptured, completely in love with his surroundings. The Guardian noticed his enthusiasm for the sea and taught the icy dragon to fish. From that moment on, Glitter has always been near the water, meeting new dragons who shared his love for the sea and teaching younglings how to fish for themselves. |
