Proustite came to the Crystallos clan completely blind and guided by his Hainu familiar. He was not born without his vision, though, and will recount the story of the magical mishap that caused it to anyone who asks. He has not stated whether or not the accident ultimately caused him to leave the Starfall Isles or what made him chose to settle in the Southern Icefield, but most of the clan doesn't dwell on it too much since blindness is not an uncommon occurrence in older ice dragons.

Proustite loves his new clan dearly, but does not agree with Ancaladar's decisions regarding their enemies. Most of the dragons Almandine sends against them are defeated in battle, but rather than chase off or seek out the temporary lairs of these dragons, the clan leader leaves them be. Proustite, as well as several other dragons, believe this is a poor idea, but unlike those other dragons, Proustite has chosen to do something about it. Few dragons are aware of it, but he is less helpless than his hainu familiar and primary duty as a forager would lead on- the accident that caused his blindness enhanced all of his other senses to levels other dragons would find unbearable. As a result, he can near-flawlessly navigate his surroundings and fight as well as any other dragon if not better. After secretly joining the Night Watch, he has begun tracking the clan's attackers and hopes to locate Almandine's lair soon.
