Name
One of the family names from the War of the Roses
"Try keeping your food in clay pots and jars to ward off pests before calling me in to deal with them."

Coming from a Plague clan who wasn't too interested in royalty, Lancaster never grew up thinking himself related to kings or queens. In fact, the story of the War of Roses was told to him very differently. He heard that the fake prince was just trying to bring peace to the area, as he knew that the old system of passing the crown to the next in line was unfair to those who had to live under the paw of an oppressive family of dragons. Because Lancaster shares the same wing color with the fake prince from the story, he also likes to think of himself as someone fighting for the greater good.

Thanks to his natural Plague magic, Lancaster is able to use his abilities as a way to prune back any plant life that is encroaching around the lair too much. Invasive species of plants often need to be kept at bay, and new plots of land have to be cleared whenever the clan expands or moves. With a simple spell, he is able to quickly and effectively kill any unwanted vegetation. However his abilities are not just limited to plant life, for if there's any other sort of pest needing eradication, Lancaster is called in to handle it. Bugs and other vermin do not bother the stores of the food in their lair thanks to his magic.

War of the Roses
(no real connection to actual history btw)

Over 100 years ago, there was the Rose Clan which was a proud and noble family of dragons that saw themselves a bit like royalty. When the king of the clan died, and soon after his queen, there was a fight among their sons over who should rule the clan next. While the oldest prince claimed that he was the rightful successor, suddenly a dragon appeared, calling himself the next king. This new comer told everyone that he was the outcast son of the dead king's first queen.

Each prince had a fair amount of support from roughly half the clan, with a few remaining neutral as the fighting broke out into full fledged battles. The Rose Clan was broken into two warring sides, the Red and the White. As the bloodshed continued for several years, the surrounding territory was drawn into the conflict. Allies appeared while other clans simply fled the area to avoid the fighting.

Eventually it was discovered that the outcast "half-brother" was really a fake. While there had been a son born to the first queen before her death, that child never lived to see himself become a prince. The outcast instead slew the hatchling and assumed his identity in order to one day gain the crown of the prestigious Rose Clan.

Once the rightful prince assumed his role, it was discovered that the clan was no longer as powerful as it had once been. All the fighting had cut their ranks until there were but a few dragons left to serve their new king. It was decided that he would step down and instead work with his fellows as simply their leader, everyone too tired from fighting a years long war.

Today, the Rose Clan has mostly disbanded, though their signature appearance is still very much seen all throughout the world.
