Atlantis
The Gravedigger
Ceremonial overseer of burials in the clan, working directly with The Priestess to ensure the proper procedures and rites for those dragons for whom burial is desired or most appropriate after death. Burial: The Action or Practice of Burying a Dead Body Atlantis is a fifth tier dragon in the hierarchy, working directly under The Priestess Lilith, who has oversight of all death-related rites and practices for the clan. His specialty lies in burial; some dragons may choose this before their death, making their wishes known to their clanmates (this is often associated with their elemental affiliations or life experiences and beliefs), and others may have burial assigned to them by The Priestess.
Mate -
Familiar Hippocampus Alignment Lawful Evil Originated The Hewn City One of the five dragons collectively responsible for the various death rites of the clan, one might be surprised to learn this frightening apparition of a dragon is the son of the Shadow Abassador and his mate, Paradise. Atlantis has taken to his mother's element of Light, but more to the natural decay and soil of Nature than his father's preferred dancing shadows. Dragons who die in the Avarice clan are managed in various ways. Most are ritually sacrificed; their bodies pass to the Gods, and no longer bother the earthly realms. Of those who undergo more mundane deaths, burial or cremation are the choices, and Atlantis is responsible for the former. He not only digs the graves, scattered in careful spirals through the jungle above the Avarice lair, but also presides over the rites, lays the body in the ground, oversees the final goodbyes from those who cared most, and arranges grave markers where these are desired. His job is a macabre one, in the minds of some, but in it he finds great peace and meaning. It is an honour, really, to arrange and oversee the final resting place of those beloved to the clan. Atlantis is not the most popular dragon in the clan, however. If his grim profession were not enough, the other dragons do not quite understand the meaning of the grasping acid-green, ghostly claws that persistently swarm his body. Are they the remnants of those he has put in the ground? It does not help that he conducts most of his work at night, the ghostly claws rendering him an eerie apparition lit only by corpselight as he fills the dirt in over the bodies of fallen comrades. His status as the son of the Shadow Ambassador helps some, and he is not strongly disliked either - more avoided, making many Avarice clan members a little uneasy. They all, though, note the importance of his work, and he is certainly respected, if not loved. |
