Hatched from a nest close to his father’s forge, on the first day of winter, George’s first memories as a hatchling are of huddling at his father’s feet as he worked, battling the cold with the deep heat that clung to the forge. By the time the weather eased, he was so used to the heat that convincing him to leave it became increasingly difficult, more preferring to spend his time learning his father’s craft than learning how to hunt.

Despite being an energetic hatchling, always underfoot, George grew into a calm and methodical dragon, something that was reflected in the exquisite quality of his work by the time he took over the running of the forge himself. He still rarely leaves the forge, and never does so in winter, instead lounging in the heat with any coatls of the clan seeking to escape the cold - even Hodei can be persuaded to join, once the weather becomes truly foul.

Even with the company he regularly kept, and the help he regularly sought, the clan never guessed the secret project he worked on, deep in the night as the clan hunted and fought; George wished to create dragons of metal. Starting small, he began by making mechanical familiars that patrolled the forge on shaky limbs, flocks of birds that clunked in circles around the ceiling, and, finally, after countless failed attempts, from a lightning runestone he created his first - and only - dragon.

Although small in size, Perona is George’s finest creation, and he revealed her to the clan with pride. Whilst she seemed well liked, and the clan fascinated by her, her existence caused ripples of worry; many of the clan did not like the idea of mechanical dragons, found the thought unnerving and unnatural. Though disheartened by this response, George reluctantly agreed to cease, though he continued to create tiny metal familiars to amuse hatchlings.

Now, George mostly spends his time tutoring Perona between his work, having taken it upon himself to teach her about the world, the Shadowbinder, the night sky, instead of simply sending her to Io for her studies - sometimes, he regrets making her quite so curious.
