Mother of nature, of stone and sky
Looming in the distance like a mountain range
Untouched by time
You are the kind shade of an oak tree
The buzz of the humble bumblebee
The wind in the leaves
And the quiet cackle of birds calling from among the canopy
Mother of nature, of stone and sky

(Poem by TwistedRae)

Like a great oak with its roots tangled beneath the ground, there is more to Yavanna than meets the eye. Even a stranger seeing her for the very first time would sense a sort of unearthly aura clinging to her. She may not look unusual, but something about her speaks of an untold, ancient wisdom. She’s either wise beyond her years, or much, much older than she appears to be.

Yavanna enjoys spending time with her mate and ever-present companion, Aulë. Although they don’t always agree on everything, it’s clear that they make a perfect pair. While Aulë might not understand everything Yavanna does, he trusts her without reservation, and she trusts him just as completely. When they’re alone together, Yavanna likes to make up nicknames for her mate. Some of them are lovely, and some of them are terribly embarrassing, undignified, and should never be said in public. When others are around, she’ll affectionately refer to him as her ‘Sentinel’.

For the most part, Yavanna is a kind, benevolent soul. She would never cause harm without just reason. That being said, she’s still a force to be reckoned with. She isn’t afraid to get dirty, and wields her wicked sharp branch-claws and horns as deftly as a knight might wield a sword. When not using her claws or horns, she is capable of summoning thrashing vines from the very ground to carry out her will.

By her clan, Yavanna is seen as a sort of deity or nature spirit. She can control plant life, like when she summons whipping vines when defending her clan. She acts as a sort of protector for the forest – keeping a watchful eye over it. There’s a good reason they call her ‘The Mother Tree’.

Most dragons outside of the clan would call these beliefs heretical. They defy the Gladekeeper by claiming that anyone else could be a deity over nature. To practice their beliefs in peace, Yavanna and her people prefer to keep to themselves in a small area at the edge of the Shrieking Wilds. She leads her clan. To her, they are disciples and children. Occasionally, they are friends as well. They’re free to join the clan, or leave as they please, and she never asks or forces them to worship her. Some of them simply do so on their own after spending time with the clan and getting to know Yavanna better.

Like anything involved in nature, Yavanna has a curious relationship with Plague. Life and death are just two sides of the same coin. Everything goes through its cycles. Flowers bloom, making way for the tree leaves before they turn gold and fall to the ground for winter. On the other hand, disease, corruption, and the death of nature are all a threat to Yavanna’s domain. A withered, rotting tree might give way to new life. But if too many plants are infected or rotting, the whole forest is threatened. This is the delicate line that she must balance on.

There is no way for ordinary dragons to truly control nature. Fire and machines can prove a threat, but Yavanna remains amused and derisive at Lightning’s attempts to use these tools to conquer. True Nature remains wild and untamed in the face of mortal folly.
