Before Alpha developed his case of amnesia, he was known by the members of the Nightfall Collective as the exceptionally kindhearted, generous, and sharp-witted leader of their clan. While the first two points remained true after the incident, his mind had become foggier with time, which made running the collective a difficult task - and sadly, he knew this to be the case.
Since then, Reverie - the final daughter he would have with his previous mate, Asterales - has ruled as the leader of the Mossglow Clan, and therefore the Nightfall Collective as a whole.

Darkness.
Darkness was all that he could remember before this.
Asterales - who was his partner, and whom he knew very well before his head injury, he was told - was the first dragon he saw when he awoke. He found himself lying in an unfamiliar den, and the bright light shining in from the entrance burned his eyes and caused his brain to feel even fuzzier than it already was. He knew that something was wrong, but he didn't know what.
Then, he remembered... something. A dream he had, whilst in his ceaseless slumber. A dream of an endless night, of the glow of bioluminescent flora, and the gentle words of a deity he had only heard of in stories, but sweet Arcanist would he be lying if he said it didn't sound like the sweet sound of an old friend, pulling him into a warm embrace.
...Do these things happen for a reason?
He awoke with no memory of his old name, nor memory of his old life. Although he relives it in the tales told by his kin and those who have always looked to him for guidance, he knew that, if there were to ever be a life for him, it would be the one that would come from this point forward.
From now on, he was Alpha - this was a new beginning.

Upon settlement in the Wispwillow Grove, a strange feeling overcame Alpha - but as not to worry his busy clanmates, he simply brushed it off as another side effect of his memory loss, and went about business as usual.
A few nights later, he would awaken from his sleep and be greeted with a strange, white ball of light, and a disembodied hum that called out to him by name. Although he tried to resist its thrall, the strong magical force behind it was too powerful to fight, and he found himself in a hypnotized state. Alpha followed the glow to an odd black pool of darkness, from which he felt an overwhelming compulsion to sink into - to allow himself to be consumed by the void.
His body had sunk halfway through when an Imperial dragon grabbed him by the tail and pulled him out of the abyss - but by that point, the transformation had already begun taking place. The dragon who was once a Tundra was reverting back to a more primal, ancient form, with a coat of inky blackness dripping down his back. This mysterious void - it had somehow caused him to take the form of a Gaoler.
"That thing, it changes people," the Imperial - who's eyes leaked endless darkness - would later say. "I don't know why you were drawn here, or what these woods want from us... but there must be a reason. There is something supernatural lying in those shadows, that only those with arcane knowledge can bring to light."
