Biography

M i s a k a
Clan Founder, Clan Elder, Mirror Leader, Elite Council Member, High Exalter

Ah, Misaka. The progenitor of the Clan of Misty Shadows- the one who started it all. She holds four incredibly intense positions in the clan- she is its founder, but she didn't stop there. She is the Mirror Leader and representative for her clan along with her mate, Nerokai. Though doomed by the mists of time to be forgotten by most, her story is still sparkling clear in her own mind, and shall never be forgotten as long as she lives.

She entered the Tangled Wood as a shy and awkward plain-colored youngster, two years ago, when the land itself was as wild and untamed as the dragons that dwelled within. Her first ally was a male Guardian, and the two travelled together for several months- Misaka even had a nest of three hatchlings with him. Eventually, though, all good things come to an end. The dragon Misaka knew as her friend was snatched and sent to the Shadowbinder; her three children, though adolescents by that time, soon followed. The Clan of Misty Shadows wasn't even an inkling in her mind yet, but at that moment all Misaka knew was that she was now alone, and an alliance can sometimes be a dragon's only protection. It was good fate that brought her to the caring, if cheeky, young dragon named Azurite. He found her alone and listless, slowly wasting away without the energy to hunt, and after she learned to get over the faint smell of rot that emanated from his mouth, Misaka learned to trust again. Anchored with a loyal friend once more, Misaka set hard to work with Azurite, making a small yet functional den in the Driftwood Drag.

Eventually, the friendship between Misaka and Azurite turned into something deeper. Young love though it was, the two became mates, and shortly after stumbled upon a new dragon- or perhaps this dragon stumbled upon them. Previously, both of the young dragons had not met any breed outside of their own, or in Misaka's case, Tundras as well: other dragons seemed just short of mythical. The female that came to them, while really about their own age, seemed much older- and much more fierce, aggressive, and distrusting. She was a Skydancer from the Windswept Plateau, whose clan had been disbanded; having nowhere else she felt comfortable, she headed for the dark depths of the Tangled Wood. Quite literally, she stumbled upon Misaka's and Azurite's den, and after a rather disgruntled greeting that nearly ended in a fight, she reluctantly decided to stay with them. It was nearly a moon cycle before she would even divulge her name, and as she is an infamous dragon in the clan now, that name is now beloved indeed: Lagoon.

It was hardly another moon cycle before a new dragon joined them: a skittish, nervous, high-energy young Skydancer by the name of Obsidian. Intensely introverted, his original flight- the boisterous, outgoing Lightning clans- frightened him, eventually to the point of fleeing the Shifting Expanse. Oddly enough, it was meeting Lagoon that calmed him down. Misaka remembers him constantly claiming it was only because she was a fellow SKydancer, but she knew there was always much more between the two. A broken, distrustful warrior princess and an anxious, introverted young scholar; the two helped to heal each other. What more could either have asked for?

After the "first four," as they are known, had come together, they decided it would be truly incredible to create a clan for themselves. From Misaka's mind and the shadowy surroundings came the name of the clan: inspired by the pale, misty white shapes constantly rearranging themselves around the Tangled Wood, and the stark black trees and dull grey earth they veiled. Each of the first four contributed part of their lives to the clan. Misaka's contribution was the ranking system in the clan; the Elite Council and the different roles each dragon would play. It was also her actions that led to the creation of the exaltation sysem in the clan. Council Members would find mates, and they would have hatchlings with the purpose of being exalted, save in a very rare instance. Ironic though it was, Misaka was proud of her contribution. Her mate, Azurite, left the clan's base to recruit dragons to join.

And then they could only wait.

Moon cycles passed, with agonizing slowness. Azurite returned at every full moon, for a day and night, but his news was bleak, if he had anything to share at all. There were no dragons roaming the Tangled Wood that were not tied to a clan, and Azurite could not travel farther away than the Sea of a Thousand Currents or the Sunbeam Ruins if he wished to return for his regular reports. The four survived, but only barely: they could barely gather enough food to feed themselves, and they had no hatchlings, for there was not enough to feed them, if they were lucky enough to be born healthy. For nearly a year, life went on like this for the first four. Then, as the hot, stifling air began to blow itself out at the end of a dreary summer, something changed. Autumn brought life to the Clan of Misty Shadows. And although the four had given up hope, something shocking happened: a pair of Mirrors joined them. They were opposites- one, Volcanyc, a male, black and red and either resting or battling at any given time; one, Ocynia, a female, lively blues and golds and usually calm unless angered. Yet they were mates, they loved each other, and they brought hope and joy back to the four. Soon after their arrival, a stunningly beautiful Skydancer named Rosewyn, hardly more than a hatchling, joined them. And then more followed. And more. Some came and left, others stayed, yet others joined the ranks that served the Shadowbinder, but the Clan of Misty Shadows survived.

Now, Misaka's role in the clan is less than that which it once was. She continues to have and exalt hatchlings, although she and her beloved mate Azurite have peacefully gone their own ways. Now there is a new Mirror who has captured her heart- Nerokai, who, though young, shows great promise. He is fierce and bitter, and it is all too evident in his eyes- red as the Scarred Wasteland from which he comes, from which Azurite comes- but she has come to love him. Aside from her duties as a Council Member, Misaka is the Mirror Leader, the sole representative of her clan to outsiders, and the leader of the breed's division within the clan. She leads the group known as the "High Exalters," composed of only a very select few dragons whose identities even the rest of the clan do not know. It is their duty to send the hatchlings to serve the Shadowbinder- as sad a task as it seems, no clan member takes it personally, least of all Misaka, who has even had to exalt her own hatchlings before. Misaka is also the Clan Elder- being the first founder of the Clan of Misty Shadows, and being so for two years, it is naturally her duty. As Elder, she communicates frequently with Council Members Jade and Azurite- the clan and dragon lore experts- and, on the occasion when a new hatchling is inducted into the clan, she ensures that they are educated on their new clan as well. Finally, as sole Elder of the clan, it is Misaka's job to simply remember. Her mind is sharp, and has never failed her; her duty is to record all of the goings-on in the clan, and all that has happened before. The tales of old belong only to her.
