Backstory

Neon doesn't remember much about his hatchlinghood, only the cold scent of war. It stung his nostrils day and night, screams echoing through the narrow pass separating him from the battlefield. His clan members were distant, barely talking or interacting with each other unless absolutely necessary. Neon only knew one thing, his parents were out there, somewhere, battling the vicious beast clans to expand their clan territory. His feathers shook in the breeze as he stood, deep in thought, a bright pebble clutched in his claws, glowing in the sun like a miniature fire. He had looked at the battlefield without fear, it was normal to him now, nothing to be scared of. There was a kind of makeshift school in Neons birthclan. A school that taught of the art of battle, art and various other things. Neon never paid much attention in the battle part of the school, but he was able to list the flights main abilities and the abilities the different species possessed at birth. Neon developed an obsession with shiny objects at a young age, even though he was fascinated by everything he saw, shiny things were by far his favourite. The many scattered gem stones and lost jewels screamed to Neon, drawing him closer, pulling his attention from whatever task was at hand. They were the reason he was never the best student, the reason his attention span was so limited. He would often go searching for anything which shone in the sun, his eyes looking out the slightest glint of metal on light.

When he was older, Neon travelled to another clan, anxious to escape the call of war. When he arrived, he met two warriors. Peri and Ruby. They quickly noticed the Coatls skills in battle and began to train him. Neon felt at ease with a sword in his Talons, able to weave it through the air wide an extension of his own body. There was only one problem. Neon had an intense fascination with bright colour and light, and would often be distracted from his training by the glint of the sun on scales or a nearby river. This made him a hard student, a student that tested his teachers patience, yet always left them laughing at the dazed expression on his face as he tried to remember what he was doing. He would always look down in confusion at the sword. What manoeuvre was he meant to be practising? Sometimes he would be half way through an advanced sword thrust as the glint of metal caught his gaze and would return from his dream world to lying on the ground, blissfully unaware of how he got there. He would then look up at Peri and Ruby with a guilty smile, realising that he had yet again disappeared into his own world. They would forgive him quickly and show another move to practice. Most training sessions went like this, although Neons improvement was obvious. After a while he was a formidable foe to the teachers themselves, able to parry their strikes and throw a flurry of his own back at them.

A Surprise Find

One day, when Neon had been sent on an expedition to check the Clan borders, he had noticed a strange cave. It glowed in the sunlight. A strange green substance lay within in, pulsating and glowing brighter as he neared. His eager talons reached for it, the shine drawing him close. As he entered the cave, he noticed that the substance was in fact thick green moss. It was reflecting the glow from something further inside, something hidden from view beneath a large dip in the ground. Neon was immediately drawn to it, able to see an intense brightness ahead. Before he knew wha had happened, he was at the dip. A huge abyss stretched below him, lit up by thousands of strands of neon moss. At what seemed to be the bottom lay a pool of light. Instinct told the Coatl it was a swamp, hidden underground away from view. He flicked his pale wings open and glided down. A small glass jar that he carried with him was now held tightly in his claws as he made the descent. With practised precision Neon collected some of the glowing green goo, watching with interest as it pulsates and adjusted its brightness to the new surroundings. The glow dulled considerably as he flew up and out of the cave entrance. It now gave off a very faint, eerie glow that still attracted Neon to it.

Emblem

After Neon had spent a few months in the clan, he felt completely at home. He had spoken to almost every member and had gotten to know them pretty well. He didn't judge on looks, more on personality and personal interests, which is how he met Emblem. She was the brightest mind in the clan, and, in his eyes, the bet looking because of it. There was an instant connection between the two, based mostly on their similar interests. Emblem also regarded dragons on personality, rather than their looks. Neon grew to love her as he spent more time with her. He loved her intelligent quirks, the fierce determination in her eyes when challenged on a fact that she knew was correct. Neon enjoyed challenging her, just to watch that familiar spark ignite in her eyes, to watch as her anger was triggered, ready for a fight. Neon had never been the brightest, but Emblem didn't seem to mind if he was a little slow on the uptake of what she was saying, the Nocturne would just explain in greater detail, help her friend to understand. Over time, they grew closer and closer, eventually becoming mates. This was no surprise to anyone in the clan, and the pairs love was obvious to anyone.
