Nikolai is an odd spiral, to say the least. Spiral being the closest fit for him, that is. The hybrid of a skydancer and spiral, Nikolai is "shorter" that is normal for a spiral, and smaller than a skydancer, with a layer of feathers on his wings, and a thick mane that is uncontrollable. The worst thing he inherited, however, is the empathy and sensory organ that is normal for skydancers- but it was covered and compressed by the bone of his skull.

With such a sensitive part of him constantly compressed, he is a very highly strung spiral, afflicted by chronic headaches and fits of emotional instability. He is eager to please, creative and craves affection and approval, but is easily overwhelmed when his senses and emotions are overloaded.

He is highly intelligent, which attracted the attention of Mitth'raw'nurodo, who enjoys and employs the younger dragon's insights on the clan to watch for discord and unrest.

When he is level and calm, Nikolai highly enjoys reading and spending time with Lauern and Arihnda. The wildclaw has an unspoken understanding of violent emotions, and Lauren is a comforting presence for his raw mind.

It don’t matter if the cold wind blows I’m gonna wind up working in the thick of it.

Nikolai's vulnerabilities leave him with various experiences and unique ways that he senses the world. When he hears sounds, they induce the feelings of texture, pressure and temperature. He can become enraptured by a dragon's voice or song, waxing poetic on the feelings it invokes within him, or it can cause him physical pain, causing him to shriek and tie himself in knots.

He is sensitive to the magic and influences of the next world, hearing whispers from those deceased, and can communicate for them. This overwhelms him, causing meltdowns and overloads.

He relies on his familiars, Taniir, Vetre and Eizsaya to be his support when he is vulnerable- the Death Seeker is sensitive to the next world, and can tell when his bonded is becoming weak, and the Tracker always knows where to find Nikolai, should he flee when having a meltdown. The Spirit of Nature knows when its comforting aura is needed for stability. The three act as emotional support when the neurodivergent spiral needs it.

Perhaps as a defence mechanism, or perhaps cruel irony, Nikolai has developed extra eyes, which see in different senses and spectrums than his main eyes. He seems to function better with his new eyes- until he overloads with greater violence than he did before. He also acquired the clan's endemic speech patterns- the same subharmonics, guttural sounds, precise diction and prominent glottal stops that is so astutely particular to their small ecology.

A recent development when moving to the Southern Icefields, Nikolai found he was far more comfortable with Arihnda, Kearns, enjoying their company. It was Arihnda who found him when during a final fit of emotional distress, he clawed his own face open in an attempt to free his sensory pit, and release the pressure from his forehead that caused him so much distress, pain and misery. Arihnda tended to him, and helped him heal, as much as the latent viruses brought from the Wastes would allow, and now Nikolai has some peace, but at a great cost to himself.
