Dharkan is a survivor and his personality reflects that. He's a practical dragon and doesn't recoil from what needs to be done. He likes to assess the situations thouroughly before making a move, but he can also make decisions quickly if needed be. He can be somewhat rough around the edges and it takes a long time to earn his trust. Despite these things, he has a noble soul. He might not come to someone's aid bearing swords and fierceness, but his subtle ways are as effective.

Although not the strongest mage in the Imperium, his loyalty and leadership skills have earned him the position of Head Archmage. He's responsible for the Magistarius and all who live within it. Despite his background as a warrior, his role is that of a bureaucrat, and he spends most of his time signing papers and/or reading treaties, amongst other things. Above all, Dharkan is a survivor and will easily look the other way when the Imperium needs him to. He knows that as long as he does what he's told, he'll thrive. He loves living in the Imperium despite its glaring flaws, and respects Vox even if secretly disagrees with some of his methods.

Little is known of Dharkan's past except for what small memories he was able to hold on to. He remembers what must have been his mother, humming sweetly down at him and craddling him. He vaguely remembers halls of gold and the scent of spices; or the heat from the magma that was used to craft the jewelry his former clan was so fond of.

He also remembers, vaguely, malnourished bodies and hollow eyes, following him and others. He remembers his mother's cry of anguish as he was taken from her. Then, only darkness and a pair of gentle red eyes staring down at him.

Dharkan's former clan wasn't very big on mages. In fact, everything that could ever pose a threat to the ruling nobility, especially something that they couldn't control, was seen as a threat and quickly disposed of. When Dharkan's magic first showed itself he was but a youngling. His mother was publicly executed for the shame of having brought mage blood into the royal bloodline. Dharkan, on the other hand, was exiled from the clan's territory with nothing but two days worth of rations.

His survival was nothing short of a miracle and abnormally good luck.

When Acheron died, Dharkan didn't know what to make of himself at first. For the first time in his life he was lost, confused, cast adrift. Joining the lysistrati had been a spur of the moment decision, but one he still doesn't regret. They treat him well and respect him as one of their oldest members, even if he is a battlemage... or perhaps because of it. Power is power and they know they hold his leash.
