Biography
Telavalieth

ALL OF THIS IS ORIONIS' FAULT. He insisted that I make a record of my life, so that future generations of The Starling understand how the ship is operated, and why. I am not as fond of art as he is; nor am I as good at artistic expression, but I have often learned to trust his judgement. Besides, should this ship travel on to another crew once I’ve passed, I’d like them to have a record of how this ship operates, if only for my own sake. No matter what happens in the future, I can say that I tried. I was born to a poor family in the Southern part of the lands inhabited by Arcane energies, near the waterway between the Scarred Wastelands, and the Windswept Plateau. The water is a joy to be on, and I joined a ship as a deckhand as soon as I was able to do so. Perhaps I joined too early; but looking at my life, and how it’s turned out, I’m not sure if I can truly regret it. I lost my ability to fly, on that voyage; during a storm, I was trapped underneath a fallen mast, and both my wings were broken. Far from shore, and with no healers left alive on board, they healed crooked. A clan of dragons from The Shifting Expanse were able to create prosthetics for my wings, so that I would be able to keep my balance, and otherwise be capable of the same things all others are… Save flight. Longing for the sky, I was taking some to out to see if I could learn a different trade, when I ended up in the Windswept Plateau, and saw dirigibles for the first time. From then on, that was my only goal. Taking whatever jobs I could, I saved up until I could buy my own ship; The Starling, the ship I now captain. I am in charge of all trades with those Swipp, and all times we use Baldwin's services. It's not that I don't trust my crew; I do, but there's a part of me that still loves the thrill of the deal. I made a lot of money for my ship from bartering, and it's a skill that I still love to hone. I refuse to be unfair in my dealings; the challenge comes from making a good deal while still keeping my honor intact. Perhaps I'm a little soft, but remembering my origins, I cannot help but cut deals with some of the less wealthy dragons when it comes to the essentials, and if a youngling ever ends up with an extra toy, or a sweet treat when we dock, what's the harm? I try my best to do my duty, and to stay a fair captain. Sometimes it's hard, but knowing that my crew respects me as I am, makes it worth it, though it doesn't hurt that, despite my previous injuries, I am still more than capable of causing harm to any that would oppose us. I cannot afford to fall in battle; my love, my Arcosia, she is at home, waiting for me, waiting for me to return. Sometimes I think she is the only reason I ever sail back home, and other times, I know it. Perhaps I am writing this journal to her, more than our future. I don’t know, but please know this, Arcosia, no matter where you are, I love you dearly, and I cannot wait until I see you next. I hear music. I wonder what Orionis is playing now...
