I'm questioning if mother still loves me. Things have been tough in the clan. It is obvious I am still in charge but there is looks that turn my stomach. The matriarch has been bringing in a lot of new dragons and I question my position. She recently had me retrained to be the strongest fighter in the clan. I bring in a lot of funds with Raya at my side but I can tell she struggles seeing me more powerful than Raya. Raya has been the strongest for years and making me stronger than him may just be a play to show the other dragons that I am still in a high place. One of the older dragons, Asu, has recently gained a lot of strength with Raya and I at his side. He has always been one of the stronger dragons since he came to us but his recent training has helped solidify his place here in the clan.

It just dawned on me the amount of misfits we have in our clan. I believe the only two that were truly planned were Louie and Helena. They came as a pair and the matriarch sought them out. Sid wasn't even planned and he came to us shortly after. Sid was actually a rescue that she found and saved during her hunt for Louie an Helena. Howl and Sophie came to us entirely separately and are one of the more popular couples in the clan. The bachelors; myself, Raya, Malen, Morgentau, Asu, and goodness, so many more are all misfits that came in different ways. Raya was a rescue and a really lucky one at that. A matriarch abandoned her clan and the dragons fled. Our Matriarch happened to find him just in the nick of time. We are still considering looking for his mate and rescuing her. She's been abandoned as well unfortunately. I wish we could rescue her. Raya would not be as lonely as he is now. We do the best we can but our best isn't successful some of the time. Asu was another rescue from someone that no longer wanted him in their clan. He fits in perfectly here. The Matriarch loves spoiling him with new things. She did the same for me when I was born so I only have a small amount of envy. The misfits here are family. And the family continues to bring in more misfits. I love them.

It's raining today. I'm sitting at the edge of our lands, watching. I saw what Helena did for a couple of refugees we had hiding in a cavern at the edge of our lands. She doesn't know that I knew of them but I'm glad she found them a home. They seemed nice but we are a fighting clan. I can't allow many freeloaders. We are close to our limit of what we can handle with the gatherers and fighters we have. Our funds and rations come from Stormcatcher for the work we do for him, so anyone not working for our cause can't stay long.

It's late because I've been busy but I needed to vent. I decided to step down. I named Xayah the leader and have moved out of my home closer to Raya. I have been counseling her on the duties you have to have as a leader. She's well capable. Her wisdom shows her age, but her fire is brighter than mine. This has all been so fast because I barely counseled with Helena on this decision. I hadn't talked to anyone else. I hope everyone takes this change well because I need it. I am so exhausted from everything.
