Some people are saying that Hydrangea has spent so much time in the Palace that he has formed an ego and forgotten where he came from. That he needs to be humbled, that he should be reminded that he's no better than any of the city guard.
The King’s most trusted subject, and the person who he spends the most time with, Hydrangea has a unique look into the plans and workings of the Kingdom as it happens, but he is also now out of touch with what is happening outside of the palace walls. His contacts still give him information but Hydrangea has a lot less context with what he hears. He knows that things are happening, that people are talking, that some particular people are making moves in the streets down below, but he doesn't know the connections, the context, the details, and he's much too busy guarding the King to find out for himself. This hampers his ability to properly share information, as he now no longer has the whole story.
Thoughts:
▸Lupus: Skilled, friendly, generous, he has a warm and open atmosphere but he’s hiding something.
▸Kinning: Young, energetic, like a golden retriever. Has a good aura, kind heart, he’s just a little naive.
▸Rawlins: Takes his post seriously and does his job well, he’s a boon to the Guard.
▸Jurek: Too forgiving, he let’s people walk all over him if it’ll make them happy.
Thoughts:
▸Atney: Contradictions, he acts like a good guy but there is no mistaking the bitter, resentful, ambition in him.
▸Layek: She’s not exactly loyal but she is true to her word, she likes a challenge and for now defending them is one.
▸Keyal: Would backstab any of their Kingdom in a second if Layek changed her mind.
▸Alistair: Naive, arrogant, a liar. He really thinks he has the upper hand but he has no idea what the word ‘strategy’ means.

Biography
His past is shrouded in mystery, he doesn’t talk about where he came from or what he was before he got to the Shadow domain but it is known that he was made a Knight at a relatively young age, meaning that perhaps he was raised by an organization or church rather than by any specific family. Hydrangea once mentioned, briefly, that as a Squire he got a good look at the undead beast that roams the sands, indicating that he likely lived in one of the cities near to the emperor’s stomping grounds. This memory doesn't seem to bother him as much as most people think it should.
Hydrangea was, already, much as he currently is when he found the Kingdom. The founders had already gathered power, the walls had been built, and he met a purple-coated mirror at the gates before entered. He hadn’t come here with the intention of staying, he just needed somewhere to pass the night, but a meeting with a young guard-in-training saw him considering why he had to travel. He was a Knight, but he had been having trouble convincing other Kingdoms that he was skilled enough to keep, leaving him a hedge Knight. Hydrangea had, mostly, given up on the idea of being a landed Knight but the words of this younger individual inspired him to try, again. So, Hydrangea requested a meeting with the King, something he managed to get quickly, and before the Founders of the Kingdom, he was brought. He was quick to explain his experience, what he was, and at first, he seemed to get the usual response. The tundra queen as cool to him as the species name would suggest. But, the King listened to the interaction intently and when the Queen had made it clear where she stood he stepped up to accept Hydrangea… despite the Queen’s wishes. Like this, Hydrangea was given a room within the palace and a place within the Guard to prove himself.
Things stayed like this for some time after, the guard-in-training was promoted leading to the two of them working close together, and Hydrangea found that he didn’t have any trouble with fitting in here. Training those that desired to become Guards became something he did pretty frequently. Hydrangea didn’t mind teaching. He had just finished a session with Fell when a young imperial approached him. Long hair covered the child’s eyes, and the youth seemed to shrink under his gaze, the preteen only speaking up when Hydrangea asked him if he needed anything. Training, the boy wanted to become a Knight like him and he wanted to learn. Hydrangea hadn’t thought much about it at the time, agreeing to teach him, but this connection would lead to him being promoted to Royal Guard when the Founders left. Personal guard to the King… to the same pipsqueak of a boy he had helped train as a child.
Personality
Extremely loyal would be one way to put it, Hydrangea is a man of oath and of honor and if he says he’ll protect you than he will, no matter what. Unfortunately, his loyalty means that if he is bound to someone, even if they do things he finds abhorrent, he will continue to protect them and support them. This kind of blind following is very dangerous, but thankfully he hasn’t picked the wrong people to be devoted to, so far.
Because of how strong his emotion-sensing is, Hydrangea is very aware of the intentions of the people around him. Of their thoughts, their worries, it’s all very loud and not something he can really ignore. While he doesn’t know the exacts of what is going on with others’ minds, he’s not a mind reader, he is pretty good at making an informed guess based on emotional states and how it changes when other things occur. This trait makes Hydrangea a great judge of character, but it also causes him to be a little judgemental of people he catches fibbing.
Personality
Caring, attentive, Hydrangea can tell when other people are in pain and he has trouble ignoring it. Naturally kind and empathetic, he does what he can in order to help the people around him and take care of them. Because of this behavior, some people have speculated that Hydrangea might have been an older brother or a caretaker of some kind at some point in his past.
Anxious, nervous, and a little panicky, these aren’t really the best traits for a defender to have but Hydrangea is loyal enough that it has, thus far, been overlooked by those around him. He doesn’t seem to do well in high-stress situations, or in altercations whether physical or verbal, quick to do what he can to get himself out of the situation. It might be caused by something from his previous life, or it could be why he was having so much trouble finding a sponsor before, whatever the case it is probably his worst trait as a Royal Guard and as a Knight.
