Spruce was always a bit off for a Wildclaw. He was found by Zyalon on one of his many pilgrimages to the Viridian Labyrinth. Zyalon had noticed a pair of great green eyes staring at him from the crook of a tree. When he investigated he discovered that hatchling Spruce had built himself a tiny lair in the branches of the tree, complete with several birds, bugs, and other critters living with him. Zyalon decided that this youngster had to return to Clan Ksayla and was to become the Ambassador to the Gladekeeper.

Spruce brought with him one of his bird friends, a variety of flowers and seeds, and what he called an "Ant Farm" which was a jar of dirt with a large fire ant colony thriving inside. As soon as he arrived in the Clan, everyone knew he was a little different. Instead of eating meat with the other Wildclaws, he preferred to munch on some plants with the Snappers and Pearlcatchers. And although he was very adept at gathering, he refused to hunt or fish.

Despite being one of the youngest of the Ambassadors, Spruce always fulfilled his duties well. He often traveled to the Viridian Labyrinth and would come back with new plants and seeds for the Clan's ever expanding garden. Spruce was particularly fond of growing beautiful, exotic flowers.
