  • 12 lairs, 10 territories, 8 children in 3 months was quite an adventure. Kalayla came winging into the Chiana Clan of Fishspine Reef looking to get a bite of food and some sleep. It felt like a spa resort. Warm soothing warms swirled around her. A variety of plants and insects were brought for her to eat and lovely tail bow given after all her pampering. She felt revived and ready to travel on.

  • Kalayla had a brief stop at the Prescott Clan in the Wispwillow Grove of the Tangled Wood. She was quite at home with several other playful dragons in the clan, but as always, she had more adventuring to do. She moved out alongside another traveling dragoness after a couple of days, ready continue her journey.

  • Kalayla found herself a bit out of breath after so much traveling. At 4 months, she was quite young for having gotten so many adventures. Don't get her wrong, she loved her journeys and experiences! But she was a bit tired and needed a break. So she found her way back home where she knew she'd always be welcome. Luckily her home-lair had space for one more and welcomed her with open arms. She spent a couple days back home reuniting with her parents, brother, and sister-in-law, before taking off again. Home may be where the heart is, but not where her heart is. Her heart belongs to the unknown. (As a gift from her parents for coming home to visit them, they gave her the only Black Arm Bow of the clan, to bless her future journeys).

  • Kalayla came to the Shatterstone Clan during a time of chaos. She got to witness the clan rise in prestige and begin management of a multiflight nesting service, as well as funneling dragons from all over to serve the Earthshaker. She was able to aid the clan's hunters as they struggled to accommodate all of the visitors and their various dietary needs, but she decided that the hustle and bustle was a bit too much, and didn't stay long.

  • Kalayla made a return to a clan she had stayed at before - The Prescott Clan, who had since renamed themselves The Forgotten Clan. Once again, she was welcomed by the dragons who resided there, and was even introduced to several new members who had joined in her absence. It was soon time for her to continue her adventure, and she was on her way again.

  • After a long period of wandering, Kalayla ended up in the Arcane domain once again and found a shelter for herself among the Dreams Seekers. She was welcomed by many dragons of different origins and managed to meet many followers of the Arcanist and some Pearlcatchers as well. She had her fun, but soon enough she decided it was time for her to leave.

  • Kalayla did not get far when she stumbled upon another Arcane clan deep within the Star Wood. Curious of the clan that had hidden itself deep within the magical forest, the pearlcatcher decided to stay for a while to see how life with them was like. She met another Wanderer, an imperial called Rosita who had stayed with the clan for a few weeks and was very happy with them, and the two became good friends. However, unlike the beautiful imperial, Kalayla was not content with the clan and her wanderlust got the better of her again. Bidding farewell, she set off again towards new adventures and headed away from the Starfall Isles.

  • Walking through Arcane territory, Kalayla accidentally found herself in her home lair once again. Her family was surprised to see her back so soon. She hadn't planned to return so soon but since she was here, she might as well stay for a while. During her stay, another PC traveler came to the clan--Thyme. She immediately caught his eye and in his attempts to court her, he caught her eye. So they laid a nest together. After her kids grew up she decided it was time to move on, but this time together with Thyme. At least for the time being.

  • They stayed together until they got to the Shifting Expanse, whereupon tragedy struck: Thyme offended one of their host clan's warriors and set the entire lair buzzing like a hive of angry hornets. The two did manage to flee, but were separated in the chaos. Kalayla hoped to find Thyme again at some point... but wasn't terribly optimistic about it. She headed off again in hopes of finding another adventure.

  • Kalayla decided to try a water nest again, remembering her time with Chiana fondly. She traveled until she came across the Lucky Night clan, to well, try her luck there. A mostly nocturnal clan, she fell right into training in the coli determined to never again be forced from a clan because she wasnt strong enough to protect herself or her chosen mate. Kalayla had a brief interlude with Cade, that lair's leading lady's man, resulting in a clutch of 3 hatchlings. Finding herself more attached than anticipated, Kalaya waited until her babies had grown up and left before moving on herself. Before she left, Tanith and Phineas, the clan's ruling couple, gave her a gift of Darksteel Wing Bangles, letting her know they would always welcome her back in the Leviathan Trench.

  • It surprised her a bit when she realized she had come back to a place she'd been before. The Shatterstone Clan was happy to welcome her back, and she found that the dust had settled from the many changes she had witnessed on her previous visit. This time, she could relax, and enjoy the arid beauty of Dragonhome. She was not the only traveler to the clan at the time. There were two other Pearlcatchers visiting: Harriet and Lavandaria. She didn't see much of Lavendaria, but she ended up taking Harriet under her wing and teaching her some of the things she had learned during her travels. Harriet wanted to be a pirate, but still didn't know much about how to defend herself or how to find food even in tough environments. When Kalayla left again, Harriet followed her.

  • The Windstone Clan was intense. It was so intense that she grew to be weary. Eventually, the chaos settled and she moved on, hoping to find a quieter clan. Now her priorities were vastly different from her friend Harriet's and Harriet had come to be very capable, so they parted ways. Before they did, Harriet gave her a (probably stolen) necklace and the clan bid Kalayla a fond fairwell.

  • The next clan she settled in was not what she had been hoping for. Though the Dolman dragons were clever and interesting, they were only newly settling into their fiery lair and the nurturing aspect of their nature past was already dissipating. Kalayla found a couple friends within the clan, primarily the nest-mother Ridgeback, Rastafast. Caring for the young ones was satisfying, even though it made her miss her own children somewhat. But when she helped Rastafast smuggle the children to other clans as often as raise them, she could not ignore the division and paranoia within the clan and she knew it was time to move on.

  • She returned to Wind territory and found a clan with nice dragons who took her in and celebrated her arrival with a feast. After caring for so many hatchlings she wanted a new nest after a long time. She found a male pearlcatcher with mesmerizing colors similar to the sea's who had lost a mate. They both knew the bliss of caring for their own hatchling and felt close to each other so they decided to make a nest together and broght their one sole egg to the world. Meanwhile she learned the stories of the clan and was hungry for more knowledge. She spent some time with other Arcane dragons and learned about stars, but she felt it was still not enough. One day she was informed of the return of the brewmaster, who left every spring for gathering new herbs and other ingredients for his potions. Kalayla was thrilled and wanted to learn more about the mysterious imperial. After seeing him, she felt connected to all forests and decided to stay for a while as the apprentice of ChineseOkapi. She had a great time in the clan but felt no real connection to it. After her only child grew up into a strong and independent adult, she decided it was time to say goodbye. After learning all there is about brewing and gathering, even some healing skills and aiding bandages, she got a pouch full of useful herbs and a hat to match and was happy to leave for a new adventure.

  • Before she knew it, she was in the Starfall Isles again. She figured she might as well pay more attention to herbs there now that she had so much more knowledge, for all she knew, the remedy for most things was right in front of her nose her whole childhood... or at least close by. There, also gathering herbs she met Aria and they got along great, they excitedly talked about concoctions and healing aids. It was very relaxing to find this sort of connection, to just be girls and talk about your favorite subject like it was the most normal thing in the world. It was so rare to find someone who even cared about such things to start with! Aria was very intrigued by her stories of ChineseOkapi particularly.

  • After leaving that clan, Kalayla took a breather for a moment. The ground under her feet was familiar. She had traveled all over Sornieth, to many lands and many clans. Yet somehow she always found herself back in Arcane domain. There's no denying her wanderlust spirit, of course, but the feeling of home had been weighing heavily on her heart for the last couple of months. What is home? Where is home? As a youngin' she thought she'd travel for the rest of her days. Nothing thrilled her more than finding a new place and interacting with new faces every day. But as she'd aged and learned so much from so many clans, she was starting to miss something: home. Something all these clans had that she didn't. She felt the soil underneath her claws again. The Starfall Isles. This was her home. She was born here. In an Arcane clan. She has Arcane eyes and Arcane siblings. They are here somewhere. She looked around. It had been a long time since she had last went home. In a sense she thought she'd never return again. Though she'd stopped by a couple times, she felt like if she returned again she'd only sadden her parents because she knew she'd inevitably leave them once more. But this time was different. She felt excited, hopeful, and not because of the prospect of a new adventure. Home. She was going home!
She sniffed the air for familiarity. After becoming interested in herbs, she also became interested in spirituality and becoming in touch with not only herself but nature and everyone around her. She closed her eyes and felt the coming breeze. The scent on it mostly carried the familiar scents of this land but no scents of dragons she knew. However, there was also a musky scent on it, a scent reminiscent of the demon dragons of her clan. She knew they resided in the Starwood Strand and would be most likely to be able to point her in the direction of her parents and brother. So she quickly flew there and came across a dragon she did not know but carried the scent of her clan. He introduced himself as Jones and told her about some changes to the clan since she left (who came, who left, etc). She was frustrated by how long he talked to her and finally urged him to tell her where her parents were. He finally gave her the info she wanted and she set off towards the Focal Point. Kalayla flew around for a long time until she finally landed on some earth. She was sweating from excitement and impatience. She saw some dragons in the distance that she recognized but they weren't who she was looking for. But as she turned her head quickly to the right to look around, she slammed into another Pearlcatcher. She opened her mouth in excitement but then caught herself and narrowed her eyes. This Pearlcatcher looked familiar, but her eyes were different. She looked like her brother's mate but his mate had Fire eyes...and this one had Arcane eyes. The other Pearlcatcher backed up and brushed herself off.
"Oh my god, my bad. I literally did not even see you there! Are you okay?" This PC's voice was sweet and relaxed; different from the one she once knew. Kalayla closed her mouth and shook her head.
"Sorry about that. It was my bad, actually. I'm sorry, I was looking for someone...you...look kinda like someone I used to know actually." At this, the other PC raised her eyebrows excitedly.
"Oh! You must have known the other Morpho!" She concluded. Kalayla narrowed her eyes again.
    "The other Morpho?"
"Yeah, there used to be another Pearlcatcher in this clan that wore this skin that was also called Morpho. I came here Unnamed and decided that was a neato name so took it myself."
    "Oh...that's cool. Where'd she go?"
"Oh, yeah! She went off traveling, actually. Though I've heard that she actually settled in one of our ally clans recently. I'm sorry, were you trying to track her down? I can probably help you find someone who could find her..." As Kalayla prepared to answer her, they were suddenly both interrupted by an excited booming voice.
"KALAYLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" They both turned to the left to see another Arcane Pearlcatcher bounding towards them. He slammed into Kalayla, knocking them both over. Corsair, her beloved brother, roughoused with her momentarily before helping her to her feet. She happily wrapped her neck around his; a sign of affection many Pearlcatchers in her clan use. His smile took over his entire face and his eyes twinkled. Kalayla wondered how she could've ever left a clan that loved her so much. He turned to the other Morpho.
"Morpho, this is my sister, Kalayla. I was telling you about her." Morpho had already guessed it by his reaction but at this introduction she smiled again.
"Kalayla, it's so very nice to finally meet you. I didn't think I would." Kalayla looked at the two of them who now looked at her with both surprise and uncertainty. She could see the worry in her brother's face. Whenever she came home it was only shortly. They wondered how long this stay would be. They wondered how soon they'd have to say goodbye again.
She had been traveling so long she didn't even know her brother had gotten a new mate. She didn't know his former one left. She was so out of the loop with her own family. It saddened her. She had already taken too long to respond but finally spoke before they could ask her what's wrong.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Morpho. Brother, where are our parents?" Corsair showed a toothy smile.
"Down by the river. But I'm sure they'd love to be interrupted." She followed her brother and his new mate to the river. The river where her parents met. The river where she was born. This river was special to her family and was where they spent their most touching times. As she flew and saw her brother caressing his mate and the two of them chuckling and flirting, she wondered if they had a special night by that river. They probably did, and of course she missed it. What else had she missed while she was traveling? She had so much catching up to do.
Finally, they arrived at their destination. She couldn't see her mother but she figured she was in the river somewhere. They landed behind their father who was lying on the river-bed, blowing bubbles into the shallows. She was standing behind Corsair and Morpho and so was currently unseen.
"Corsair, Morpho; it's so nice to see you. What are you up to?" Pebblewater stood up to greet them, rubbing his head with each of them. They didn't say anything and Corsair just smiled mischievously. His father's blue eyes narrowed curiously then followed his son's eyes to see--his daughter! "KALAYLA!" His reaction to her was much like his son's and he slammed into her, wrapping his neck around hers. She responded the same and chuckled at his excitement.
"Hi, dad." She looked shy, almost. He shook his head; his face was so surprised.
"When did you get here?! I had no idea you were in town! Where's your mother, she--" He was cut off as his mate suddenly dove out from the river and rubbed her head up against her daughter's neck and head.
    "Kalayla", Rivermonster's serene voice sounded.
"Mother", Kalayla replied. The two rubbed noses as their eyes twinkled.
"You've been gone a long time. How long are you returning for?" There was no doubt that the others were dying to hear this information but they didn't want to ask. Rivermonster, however, was a very straightforward dragon that always got right to the point. Kalayla backed up and looked at the four of them. Her mother, her father, her brother, and her sister-in-law. This was her family. This was her home. This little river. This land. This clan. She had traveled enough to be content. She had met many clans, had many mates, and nested many clutches. She had learned many skills and heard many histories. She had grown so much and learned a lot about herself. She was ready to settle down. She was ready to do the one thing she hadn't done yet: make a home. And where better than her true home?
"I know you all didn't expect me today. I didn't expect to come today. I've been traveling for a while, as you all know. I've loved it. So many wonderful experiences and dragons are out there! It really is a beautiful and grand world. There's still so much more to do and see but...I've decided not to." Her family had been listening to her and smiling but now they cocked their heads. Her father furrowed his eyebrows.
"Why not? Did something happen?" Suddenly her family worried that she had had a bad experience and was damaged from it. She shook her head.
"Nothing bad happened. I just finally decided what I want." Her family waited in anticipation. Kalayla sat down. "I want to come home."
With that, they all ran to her, rubbing into her, embracing her, welcoming her. They were happy she had followed her dream to travel. She was the first in the clan to travel. She was the one that opened that possibility to future dragons in the clan. Much had changed since she first set off. The clan had grew much and changed much. And as days passed, her family had been happy to hear of her adventures (she'd sometimes send them letters; or they'd hear from others) but it also only made them miss her and worry about her. To hear she finally wanted to come home was their dream come true. They would've never asked her to stay but in truth that's all they ever wanted.
Kalayla was reintroduced to the rest of the clan. She met those she hadn't met before and caught up with those she once knew. The lair space was cramped but they absolutely made space for her. Vixen had promised her parents that if she ever wanted to return, space would be made. She kept that promise.

And so Kalayla finally settled in her home.

Quote:
After three years settled among Vixen's Clan, Kalayla finally took a mate. She chose Weald, a Lightning Pearlcatcher and the Tailor of the clan. He lived in the River Lands alongside her. Although they have seemingly different personalities, she found comfort in his company and felt like she could be herself around him. After all, she had had a long journey and had several skills and stories. Sometimes she overwhelmed other dragons or was just a bit too odd for them. But he was never bothered. She started choosing to sleep beside him and after a bit they claimed the other as mates. Her parents and brother were surprised but happy that she knew what she wanted and had chosen a fellow Pearlcatcher in their subset of the clan.
She also officially came out as the Clan Magi. Although there's already a sorcerer in the clan and various other magic-folk, Kalayla's knowledge of magic put her on another level. She knows a lot more than she personally practices. She's like a magic scholar but with the ability to perform if she so chooses.

"Where to start, where to start? Her outfit is certainly quite impressive, apparel blending together to create a Pearlcatcher who has quite the powerful presence! You can definitely tell that she's a mage, with an air of wisdom about her. For me, however, Kalayla's main selling point was her lore! I love how it all flows so well despite being a collaborative effort that involved so many users, and how you incorporated Kalayla's visits home and eventual return into her lore - especially the final bit at the end, wherein Kalayla returns home for good, reunites with her family, and settles down, carving out her own niche with the skills she's picked up over the duration of her travels. All in all, a well-executed character arc, with a satisfying resolution." - @CirrusAscending, Top 5 Above You - Write More Edition thread.
